Up next on the chopping block is a band that I had really only heard radio hits. The band I’m talking about is Fleetwood Mac and like I said other than what’s played on the radio, I’m not too familiar with their material. So let’s take a look………..
Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac- so this album is a blues album and looking into it, I didn’t realize that they started out as a blues rock band. It’s certainly not what I was expecting but it’s a good album. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: My Heart Beat Like A Hammer, No Place To Go, Long Grey Mere
Mr. Wonderful- so this would be the first album with Christine McVie. With this one you can tell that they recorded in more of a live setting and there are even horns on here as well. Aside from that, it’s still a blues record and it’s actually pretty good. Again I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Rollin’ Man, Doctor Brown, Lazy Poker Blues
Then Play On- so unlike the last two albums, this isn’t a straight up blues record. Yes it still has that sound but also there’s folk, psychedelic, and rock music on here too. Definitely a diverse and unique album I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Coming Your Way, Fighting For Madge, One Sunny Day
Fleetwood Mac In Chicago- this one is essentially Fleetwood Mac and a bunch of blues musicians. It’s nothing special really unless you are really into blues then you’ll live this album. Otherwise, it’s a lot like what’s already been heard. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Last Night, Madison Blues, Black Jack Blues
Kiln House- not much to say about this one except that it is very much a rock album. It’s got a little bit of that blues sound going on but other than that, it’s a straight up rock record. I actually enjoyed this one more on the second listen and it has that 70’s rock sound to it. I’ll give this one 8.5/10
Standouts: This Is The Rock, Hi Ho Silver, Tell Me All The Things You Do
Future Games- this one has kind of a jazz thing going for it. The one thing to note is that there are songs with saxophones on it. Aside from that, it’s not really a very memorable album. It could be that this is a softer album and it’s one of those albums you put on in the background. Anyway, I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Morning Rain, Woman Of 1000 Years, Sands Of Time
Bare Trees- this one is not as soft as the last album but again, it’s one that I could see myself listening to while doing other things. It’s one of those that has some really good songs and some that kind of are like whatever. I’ll give this one 8/10
Standouts: Child Of Mine, The Ghost, Dust
Penguin- what I will say about this one is that it does incorporate things like slide guitar, banjo, and harmonica which does make for an interesting album. I liked this one more than I would’ve thought and again it does sound very much like a 70’s rock album which isn’t a bad thing. I’ll give this one 8/10
Standouts: Did You Ever Love Me, Bright Fire, Remember Me
Mystery To Me- this one I’d have to say is just ok. Like it’s got some good guitar work in parts but otherwise, it’s kinda forgettable. There are good moments but again, it’s just a whatever kind of album. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Miles Away, Emerald Eyes, Just Crazy Love
Heroes Are Hard To Find- this one kind of feels disjointed in parts which would make sense considering that apparently the band was at a low point at this time. It’s not a bad album but it’s not one that I would revisit anytime soon. I’ll give it 6/10
Standouts: Heroes Are Hard To Find
Fleetwood Mac- to say that this is a breath of fresh air would be an understatement. It’s such a nice change of pace from the last few albums. It’s also the first album with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Knicks and they definitely bring a fresh start to the band. I really enjoyed this one and I’m giving it 10/10
Standouts: Monday Morning, Over My Head, Sugar Daddy
Rumours- I feel like this is one of those albums that they picked up right where they left off. To me this feels like one of those albums that you could listen to back to back with the last one. I’m giving this 10/10
Standouts: I Don’t Want To Know, Second Hand News, The Chain
Tusk- this one feels more experimental than anything. It’s got a lot going on and apparently this holds the record for the most expensive album ever made whim is interesting. It is experimental but in a good way and it doesn’t get boring. I’ll give this one 9.5/10
Standouts: The Ledge, Think About Me, I Know I’m Not Wrong
Mirage- this one is certainly softer than their last few and I feel like they go back to this format every now and again. It’s actually not bad and for someone who prefers death metal over the softer stuff, this is pretty good. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Love In Store, Gypsy, That’s Alright
Tango In The Night- again this is another soft rock album and it very much feels like an 80’s album. I don’t know when I hear it, I definitely get 80’s vibes. Either way it’s a good album and supposedly it’s like one of their best selling albums although I would say that there are better ones. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Seven Wonders, Isn’t It Midnight, Big Love
Behind The Mask- this is by far one of their softest records. Now I don’t mind some softness to a certain degree but seriously they’ve gone full on soft rock at this point. This kinda feels like a B-Sides to the last album. Not a huge fan of this one so I’ll give it 4/10
Standouts:
Time- this one again continues with the soft rock thing and I’m just not the biggest fan of that kind of music. The thing with this one is that it’s got like a country music tone to it. I’m sure there’s an audience for this album but I’m not it. I’ll give it 3/10
Standouts:
Say You Will- so the last album came out in 1995 and this in 2003 so the question is how are they after 9 years? Well I would say not bad. This one I found to be just ok. The songs are good not great but I certainly wouldn’t call it a comeback album but it’s certainly better than the two previous albums. It does have some elements of their classic albums and some modern elements. Overall, not bad and I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Destiny Rules, Thrown Down, Everybody Finds Out
This was a long deep dive but then again they’ve been around since the 60’s. I actually enjoyed this one and am kinda sorry I never got to see them. Once Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were in the band it was an absolute needed change but the albums prior are also worth checking out. There’s a mix of great albums and some not so good albums but overall, this is a great band and I can see why their albums are considered classics.
