So in keeping with the metalcore tradition I’ve decided to put Eighteen Visions on the chopping block. This one is another request and it’s been a really long time since I’ve heard any of their music so with that, let’s take a look………
Yesterday Is Time Killed- so to me this one sounds like all those other debut albums from the metalcore bands at the time. I will say though that the songs are faster than from the first album from a band like Bleeding Through. Overall, not a bad start. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Raping Laughing Tasting Temptation, Overdose, The Art Of Lust
Until The Ink Runs Out- so sound wise this one is a lot like the first record. My only real complaint is that there are parts in the songs where they keep repeating the same words over and over and to me that gets a bit repetitive. But overall, I really enjoyed this one so I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: She Looks Good In Velvet, Revolutionizing The Sound Of Music, Who The Fuck Killed John Lennon
The Best Of- despite what the title says, this is not a best of album. I guess the band chose the best material from their prior out-of-print releases and re-recorded these songs to create a new album. Overall, it’s not bad and it sounds like the last two albums. I’ll give it an 8.5/10
Standouts: Motionless And White, Lifesblood, Diana Gone Wrong
Vanity- of all their albums so far, this one is the most melodic. It’s certainly got the most clean vocals on it which is a little refreshing. This is also the last one to feature Brandon Schieppati on guitar before he left to focus on Bleeding Through. This one is the most cohesive album thus far and you can tell that they are slightly changing direction sound wise. I actually enjoyed this one more than I thought so I’ll give it 10/10
Standouts: Vanity, I Don’t Mind, In The Closet
Obsession- if you are expecting another metalcore album then you will be disappointed. This one is more of a rock record and less of a metalcore record. In fact, the singer sounds like Scott Weiland at times. This wasn’t what I was expecting from these guys but it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard. I’ll give it 5/10
Standouts: Obsession, Bleed By Yourself
Eighteen Visions- ok so this one is definitely a rock record. Whereas the last one had a little bit of that metalcore sound, this one is almost all rock. Personally if Velvet Revolver wanted to get back together, they should get this vocalist because he sounds a lot like Scott Weiland. I mean this record is fine but it’s nothing special. I’ll give this 4/10
Standouts: Victim
XVII- this one seems to sort of go back to their roots sort of. Yes there are the metalcore songs but there are some songs that are reminiscent of ones from an album like Vanity or Obsession. This one is definitely a step up and I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Underneath My Gun, Crucified, Live Again
1996- so this one is actually closer to their original sound. In fact I’d say it’s a perfect follow up to the last one. If you enjoyed everything up until Vanity, then you’ll definitely like this one. There are several cover songs on here including ones from Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, and Alice In Chains. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: D.T.O., Born From Pain, Blanket
I can’t even remember the last time I listened to these guys so this was a nice trip down memory lane. I have a feeling that live these guys are awesome. Now it is safe to say that there were some hits and misses album wise but overall, their albums are pretty good.
