You can’t deny that in the 90’s, no band carried the metal flag more than Pantera. Sure you still had the legacy bands like Slayer, Metallica, etc. but no band was bigger than Pantera at that time. Of course it was only fitting that Ozzfest 1997 would be one of many times they’d be on the bill so let’s take a look……
If there was ever a band that I could go back in time and see, Pantera would definitely be one of them. Even watching the footage of their Ozzfest performance, you can tell how badass they were live!! After reading some of these comments on YouTube. A lot of people were either seeing this band for the first time or we’re seeing them for like the fifth or sixth time. And what album were they touring behind?? The Great Southern Trendkill of course which means that you had Pantera in the late 90’s, on Ozzfest during the first Black Sabbath reunion, and touring behind their best album. All that makes for one hell of a great time!! It really is too bad that both Dime and Vinny are no longer here because as I’ve said many times, I have no doubt that they would’ve reunited and it would’ve been glorious. What also makes their Ozzfest 97 appearance special is that for some shows, Dino Cazares (Fear Factory) and Scott Ian (Anthrax) would play a song with them. Now of course they were on the main stage as direct support to Black Sabbath but imagine if these guys were on the second stage?? I can’t even begin to imagine how crazy those pits would’ve been!! It’s a shame that they only had a half hour or so to play but then again it wasn’t a Pantera show so their set is just hits but those hits are great songs!! RIP to both Dime and Vinny Paul!!
