One-Two Punch: The Haunted- Dark Intentions/Bury Your Dead

There’s nothing like an instrumental intro followed by a great song. In fact you could say the same thing about a great opening song followed by a great second song. In fact, you could call it a one-two punch of greatness.  Today we’re taking a look at one of my all time favorites “Dark Intentions/Bury Your Dead” by The Haunted from the album Made Me Do It. Let’s take a look….

When I first started getting into this band, one of the songs that I came across was “Bury Your Dead” and it was one of those songs that instantly had me hooked.  I think I can honestly say that when it comes The Haunted, “Dark Intentions/Bury Your Dead” are both quintessential songs.  The way that “Dark Intentions” starts is just absolutely bad ass and for an instrumental song, it’s actually a pretty good length.  Once that is over, there’s sort of a guitar sustain/pause and then it just goes right into that drum fill to kick off “Bury Your Dead.”  What also makes them great is how they sound live. Now this band is known for having two different singers those being Peter Dolving and Marco Aro (the vocalist on Made Me Do It) and I have to say when Peter rejoined the band his live version of “Bury Your Dead” was a great attempt, however this song has always been Marco’s song to sing.  Whether you’re listening to the album version or the one from the live album “Live Rounds In Tokyo,” you cannot deny how bad ass both songs are. Now if you want to hear Peters version of this song, there is also the live album Roadkill as well as the Ozzfest 2005 DVD.  “Dark Intentions/Bury Your Dead” are both quintessential Haunted songs and are the perfect blend of thrash metal, death metal, and punk.  Definitely give these two songs or listen, and you’ll see why these have become live staples.
