Poison The Well: (2026 Rewind Review)

There are some bands that really are underrated and overlooked. On March 19th, 2026, Poison The Well has released the album Peace In Place.  Now they were one of my earlier reviews and let’s take a look…….

The Opposite Of December…..A Season Of Separation- I was lucky enough to see them play this album in full on their 2025 tour and it was pretty freaking awesome if I do say so myself. Now hearing the regular studio version, I actually think I appreciate this album a little bit more.  It’s definitely got a nice blend of hard-core growls with a little bit of clean vocals.  Again, not a bad way to start

Previous Score: 8/10

New Score: 8.5/10.

Standouts: Slice Paper Wrists, Nerdy, Mid Air Love Message

Tear From The Red- this album was my introduction to this band. If I remember correctly, someone I went to school with was always talking about this band and how much they liked this album.  I didn’t really give it a listen until years later but it’s a great follow up record that’s for sure.  I think whenever they played songs of this album at Warped Tour, these were the ones that stuck out the most.  If you’re looking for a good starting point, I would maybe start with this record.

Previous Score: 9/10

New Score: 9.5/10.

Standouts: Botchla, Rings From Corona, Pieces Of You In Me

You Come Before You- this is one of those albums that I feel like they wanted to go in a slightly different direction. It’s not as aggressive as the last couple of records and it’s actually melodic in parts.  There are a lot more clean vocals, but it’s done right which is always great because it can go either way.

Previous Score: 9/10

New Score: 9/10

Standouts: Ghostchant, The Realist, Loved Ones

Versions- I feel like this album is very hit or miss. I don’t remember it being this way when I heard it the first time or when I reviewed it the first time.  It just feels like they’re experimenting with different things and in my opinion, it doesn’t really work.  It just feels disjointed and uneven, but it’s not unlistenable.  This probably won’t be an album that I would go back and revisit anytime soon.

Previous Score: 6/10

New Score: 4/10

Standouts: The Notches That Create Your Headboard, Composer Meet Corpse

The Tropic Rot- whereas the last album, I didn’t really care for on the second listen this one I actually enjoyed more on the second listen. This one has a few different styles going on. It’s not a full out hard-core album, but it’s got some midtempo songs and is actually a lot darker than I remember. This is definitely a good example of how a band sort of evolves but at the same time can stay true to their roots.  It’s a great album and I definitely have a better appreciation for it.

Previous Score: 3/10

New Score: 9/10

Standouts: Are You Anywhere, Cinema, Exist Underground

Peace In Place- has it really been 17 years since we got new POISON THE WELL?? that to me is unbelievable, but I would absolutely say that this is one of those definitive comeback records. It’s almost as if they never left.  This album starts off very calmly, which is the perfect way to start this kind of album.  Once it gets going, it really goes for it and I have to say it’s absolutely badass!!  This is one hell of an album and it has something for everyone. If you’re a fan of say Tear From The Red you’ll like this album if you’re a fan of the last album you’ll like this.  In a time where singles and EP’s are the norm, it’s really great that bands are still putting out full length albums.  I honestly can’t think of a single song that’s skippable and it certainly is one of those albums that once it’s done, you could easily go back and listen to it all over again.  To me this is one of those records that is great from start to finish. I have no choice but to give this album 10/10.

Standouts: Wax Mask, A Wake Of Vultures, Thoroughbreds

This was a band that back in the day I liked, but never really gave them as much attention as I should have. If you have not had a chance to catch them on tour, you are definitely missing out.  I do feel like when they were in their heyday, they did kind of get overshadowed by other metalcore bands and that’s too bad but they are absolutely back with a vengeance and I for one. I am looking forward to seeing them anytime they come through.
