So in continuing with music from the 90’s, I thought I’d review Nirvana. I don’t think I really need to say much here about them as everyone who reads these reviews should know about them. So here we go…..
Bleach- out of all of their albums, I’d say this is the one that I have listened to the least. After listening to it I gotta say that it’s not a bad album. It has almost a punk edge to it and it sounds very raw compared to their future albums. I mean it’s the first of three albums but it’s a good start. I didn’t realize it came out in the late 80’s. This is also the only album to not have Dave Grohl on drums. Anyway a pretty good start. I give it 8/10
Standouts: School, Mr. Moustache, Negative Creep
Nevermind- so this album is regarded as a classic however, almost everything on it is so overplayed. I mean this album has 90% of their hits and this would be the first album to have Dave Grohl on drums. I mean I don’t feel the need to go much more into it. I mean the album cover alone is considered to be one of the best album covers of all time. It’s a classic but I have to ask is this album a classic or are the songs just overplayed? Anyway, I’m giving this 7/10
Standouts: Territorial Pissings, Lounge Act, Stay Away
In Utero- the final studio album before Kurt Cobain’s death. I must say that this one to me is underrated. I hadn’t heard much of this one either and I’m glad I listened to it because honestly I prefer it to Nevermind. If you were to ask me back in the day which Nirvana album I like best, I might have said Nevermind however this one would be my answer today. No it’s not a perfect record and there are a few dull moments but as a whole, this is a fantastic album. I give it 9/10
Standouts: Scentless Apprentice, Very Ape, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
Well that one was short and sweet and I hadn’t really listened to much of them and I’m glad I did. They had three great albums and it’s really too bad Kurt killed himself because I really would’ve been curious how they would be today. I mean if Kurt were still alive would the Dave Grohl be in the band and would there be no Foo Fighters? Overall, this music is timeless and will live on forever but so many songs are so overplayed.
