Dismember

Anyone that knows me knows that Swedish Death Metal is one of my favorite kinds of music. There’s just something about death metal from Sweden that’s just so badass and awesome. So now I’ve put Unleashed, Grave, and Entombed on the chopping block which means that now I am finally going to complete the circle and put Dismember on the block. So let’s take a look…….

Like An Ever Flowing Stream- ah yes the 90’s. I know that this was the era when grunge was huge and all that but in my opinion, the 90’s was when death metal was also at its peak and this album is a perfect example of that. This is one of those classic Swedish death metal albums. Like it has all the elements for your quintessential death metal album. If you are into this kind of music or death metal in general then stop reading this, go listen to it, then come back. I’m absolutely giving this one 10/10

Standouts: Skin Her Alive, Deathevocation, Dismembered

Pieces- this is an EP that was released between the last album and Indecent and Obscene. It does have songs Like An Ever Flowing Stream and songs from the next album but a few others that are on here exclusively. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: I Wish You Hell, Torn Apart, Carnal Tomb

Indecent & Obscene- this one maybe isn’t as strong as Stream but it is a great follow up. The songs have sort of a thrash tinge to them but I suppose thrash elements are going to find their way into any sort of death metal. Either way, great follow up and it gets 9/10

Standouts: Case # Obscene, Fleshless, Eviscerate (Bitch)

Massive Killing Capacity- this one sort of slows things down a bit. I feel like here we get a slower album but the riffs are big and crushing which makes for a badass record. I’ll give this one 10/10

Standouts: Massive Killing Capacity, Crime Divine, Casket Garden

Misanthropic- another EP which serves as an appetizer for the Death Metal album. This one is shorter than the Pieces EP as there are only 5 songs on here and one of them is a cover of Pagan Saviour by Autopsy. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Misanthropic, Pagan Saviour

Death Metal- I’m actually really surprised no death metal band came up with this as a title to any of their albums. Not gonna lie though this one is kind of a step down. There are some parts that tend to drag and are repetitive.  I’ll give this one a 8/10

Standouts: Let The Napalm Rain, Bred For War, Of Fire

Hate Campaign- so this album was released in 2000, and yet they for still sound as if they are recording in the 90’s.  Something about the production on these albums makes it. I don’t know maybe anyone who knows about production that stumbles upon this and knows these albums can enlighten me. Anyway the album itself has some really fast and short songs but I feel like this is one of their sort of forgotten albums. Like this is one that doesn’t really come up in conversation. And like the last album, there is a good amount of filler. I’ll give it 8/10

Standouts: Enslaved To Bitterness, Suicidal Revelations, Beyond Good And Evil

Where Iron Crosses Grow- after the last couple albums, these guys are definitely a lot tighter and the songs are more cohesive. There are also some melodic elements on here too guitar wise. Definitely one of those albums that in my opinion is essential death metal. I’m definitely giving this one a 10/10

Standouts: Where Iron Crosses Grow, Tragedy Of The Faithful, As The Coins Upon Your Eyes

The God That Never Was- so this is one of those albums that sort of picks up where the last album left off. Whereas the last record had some slower more crushing songs, this one has a lot more fast songs. I would actually say that this one and the last one complement each other. I’m giving this one a 9/10

Standouts: Autopsy, Shadows Of The Mutilated, Phantoms (Of The Oath)

Dismember- again the production on here just sounds more I guess gritty but that’s sort of the charm of this band. I feel with this album, we get a little bit of everything. Not a bad album but not exactly my favorite. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: The Hills Have Eyes, Europa Burns, Combat Fatigue

The reason why it took so long to put these guys up for review is mostly because Spotify took forever to release all their albums on its platform but I’m glad that they are there now. This is a band that I wish would tour here in the states a lot more but I guess it’s hard for bands in Europe to tour here.  Anyway, this band is absolutely badass and this was one of the more fun deep dives I’ve done. Hopefully I’ll get to see them live now that they’ve been back for a few years but more importantly, we definitely need a new album.

Final Grade: A+
