Up next is a band that some would say were the most notorious band in the 80’s (or something like that). The band on the chopping block is Motley Crue and honestly while I am not a fan of glam metal, their autobiography The Dirt (later a movie on Netflix) is actually quite good. That said, the question being is this band more than just their hits? Well let’s take a look…….
Too Fast For Love- to me, this kind of has almost a 70’s hard rock tone to it. I can’t really describe it but it sounds almost like it could’ve come out in the 70’s. Now that might be because it was released in 1981 but still, it’s not really what I had expected. Overall, it’s actually not bad. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Come On And Dance, Starry Eyes, Toast Of The Town
Shout At The Devil- here is where I feel like this was probably the album that broke them. It does have quite a few of their hits like the title track and Looks That Kill but aside from those songs, it’s got other lesser known songs which are pretty good. Definitely can see how this album would be big in the 80’s. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Bastard, Red Hot, Danger
Theatre Of Pain- again another album that from what I gather only made them even bigger. This is also the same album that gave us the ballad Home Sweet Home but this is one of those albums that sort of picks up where Shout left off. Another classic so I’ll give this one 7/10
Standouts: Use It Or Lose It, Louder Than Hell, Fight For Your Rights
Girls, Girls, Girls- ok let me preface this by saying that this is one of those records with a really stupid name. Now that that’s out of the way, this is another one of those classics. It would seem that these guys are on a roll here. Aside from the title track this also gave us more songs that most people should know. I’ll give this one 6/10
Standouts: Five Years Dead, You’re All I Need, Bad Boy Boogie
Dr. Feelgood- I will say that this one sort of seems to be all over the place. It does have some ballad-y type songs but as a whole it’s ok. Again I’m sure that this was huge for their fans. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: She Goes Down, Slice Of Your Pie, Rattlesnake Shake
Motley Crue- so this one is the first without Vince Meal and the only one with John Corabi. I must say, it’s actually really good. It’s got a grungey, blues rock tinge to it. It almost sounds like a completely different band but in a good way. I really wish that they would’ve made more albums with Corabi because he actually can sing a lot better than Vince Meal. I’m giving this one 9/10
Standouts: Power To The Music, Poison Apples, Smoke In The Sky
Generation Swine- ah yes now we get Vince Meal back again (oh joy) and you can tell that these songs were written for an actual singer like John Corabi. I really wanted to like this one more because I feel as if it’s the black sheep of their catalog and the album cover is kind of cool but it’s a very weird record. I’ll give it 5/10
Standouts: Find Myself, Generation Swine
New Tattoo- I feel like this one they try to go back to their roots sort of. The thing with this album is that it’s very forgettable. All the songs start to sound the same and it’s just a whatever kind of record. I’ll give it a 2/10
Standouts:
Saints Of Los Angeles- ah yes the supposed comeback record. Not sure how to describe this one. I guess the best way I can describe this one is that it seems like an 80’s glam band are trying to fit into the music scene in 2008. Like the last album, it’s just kind of forgettable. Production wise it’s probably better but it’s just a whatever kind of album. I’ll give it 4/10
Standouts: Face Down In The Dirt
This band isn’t quite as bad as I would’ve expected but still they really don’t make me want to pickup any of my guitars and start riffing or writing anything. Yes they have songs that are better than what you would hear on a classic rock radio station or hear in a movie but overall, they’re just ok. Again I am not a glam metal fan and was more curious about their albums. Now I will say that the album, they did with John Corabi is absolutely worth checking out and the best musicians in this band are Mick Mars and Tommy Lee. I did see them in 2005 when they reunited and that in my opinion was the last time Vince Meal could still sing. Although the YouTube videos with him singing live now with subtitles are some of the best videos ever. Look them up now thank me later
