Forgotten Classics: Primitive Radio Gods

Ever since I started doing these Forgotten Classics, it really does take me back to a simpler time.  Today we’re gonna take a look at the song “Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand” by the band Primitive Radio Gods.  Let’s take a look……..

Well, aside from this being an absolutely ridiculously long song title, this is one of those songs that (from what I remember back in the day) was always fun to listen to anytime it came on. The title of the song is a reference the song “Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand” by Bruce Cockburn from his album Further Adventures Of.  According to frontman Chris O’Connor, he submitted his songs to several record labels and was turned down at first. He waited several months and then tried it again and this time was picked up by Columbia Records. “Standing” is one of those songs that has not only alternative rock but a little bit of hip-hop elements thus giving it crossover appeal.  Now, wow this particular track made this band. A one hit wonder band it did see some appearances in films like 1996’s The Cable Guy.  If you do or do not remember this song, definitely give it another lesson because if you’re like me, it will definitely take you back to a simpler time.
