For this review I decided to go alternative rock and review the band Everclear. Now up until now I’ve only heard really a couple of their hits but I’ve liked what I’ve heard and I have actually seen them live a couple times. Let’s take a look……….
World Of Noise- ok so this one has kind of a grunge-y sound to it and it even has a little bit of a punk sound as well. Either way, this is a good start however if you are looking for this album on Spotify you won’t find it and you have to hear it on YouTube which sucks. I give this 9.5/10
Standouts: Fire Maple Song, Sparkle, Sick and Tired
Sparkle and Fade- ok so I’m sure if you know who this band is then you definitely know the song Santa Monica. That and a couple other hits are on here. This one kind of has that same sound that was on the first record but more [I guess] polished. This is definitely a fun record to listen to and definitely recommend it. I give this record 10/10. It’s a classic
Standouts: Electra Made Me Blind, You Make Me Feel Like A Whore, Chemical Smile
So Much For The Afterglow- so this is another record of theirs with a bunch of their radio friendly songs. As for the rest of the album, it’s actually really good. Like most bands with a lot of radio friendly songs, there is a lot more to the album and this one is no different. This one also has a more rock sound whereas Sparkle and World had a rock and punk-ish sound on them. Again I’m giving this another 10/10
Standouts: So Much For The Afterglow, Amphetamine, Everything To Everyone
Songs From An American Movie Vol. 1: Learning How To Smile- ok so I wasn’t expecting to really like this one as much as I did. No it’s not like the other albums and in fact it feels like it’s a more mellow record which isn’t always a bad thing. For me personally, I prefer the harder rock sound these guys have. Standouts: Here We Go Again, Now That It’s Over, Out Of My Depth
Songs From An American Movie Vol. 2 : Good Time For A Bad Attitude- ok so if the last one was more mellow/softer rock then this one is more of a hard rock record. See to me this is what should’ve come after Afterglow but I guess they wanted to try something different. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: Rock Star, Short Blonde Hair, All Fucked Up
Slow Motion Daydream- if you combine the last two albums then this is what you’d get. Like you have a couple harder sounding songs back to back then you have some softer songs back to back. So 8 guess you could say that this one is kind of up and down. I give this 7/10
Standouts: I Want To Die A Beautiful Death, A Beautiful Life, The New York Times
Welcome To The Drama Club- again this is another album that has songs that seem toned down. I would say that this is one of those records that I could put on in the background while doing other stuff. Overall it’s a good record and it gets 8/10
Standouts: Hater, Shine, A Shameless Use Of Charm
Invisible Stars- ok so this one kind of reminds me of their older stuff such as the Afterglow album. Honestly, I was missing this sound because as much as I don’t mind their somewhat slower stuff I enjoy the faster songs a lot more. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: Falling In A Good Way, Tiger In A Burning Tree, Aces
Black Is The New Black- so this one seems to pick up where Stars left off and I like where these guys are at. To me they sound their best when they make hard rock songs and like I said before, while I appreciate their slower stuff, I much prefer the hard rock songs. Definitely check this one and the last one out if you are wanting just a simple hard rock band. Anyway this one gets 9/10
Standouts: The Man Who Broke His Own Heart, This Is Your Death Song, Van Gogh Sun
So like I said before, if you want a simple hard rock band, then you’ll definitely enjoy these guys. I must say I had fun with this one because there is more to their music than what you have heard on the radio. Also live, (at least the times I’ve seen them) they put on a great show.
