Up next on the chopping block is another rewind review. Now, normally, I like to do new album rewinds on or around the day the new album is released, but in my defense I didn’t know that this band had put out a new album until recently. The band back on the chopping block is the band Jinjer and I honestly can’t remember the last time I listened to them so this will be a good one. With that let’s take a look………….
Inhale, Do Not Breathe- so this one is their debut EP and it kinda sounds like your run of the mill metalcore except that there are harsh and clean vocals. I did enjoy this one a bit more than when I first heard this so that was nice.
Previous Score: 6/10
New Score: 8/10
Standouts: Scissors, Hypocrites & Critics, My Lost Chance
Cloud Factory- this one is definitely a step up from the debut EP and you can even tell that the songs are a bit more cohesive and the band overall is just more dialed in. There is a nice trade-off between clean and gutter vocals and for a first album it’s a pretty good start.
Previous Score: 8/10
New Score: 9/10
Standouts: Outlander, Cloud Factory, Who Is Gonna Be The One
King Of Everything- so this is the album that gave us the song Pisces and if you’re a little, unsure as to what I mean by that go to YouTube and just type in Jinjer Pisces reaction and you’ll see exactly what I mean. Aside from that song, the rest of the album is pretty damn good. I don’t wanna say that it’s a continuation of the last one but it’s a great follow up. One thing that I like about this album is that the guitar tone is absolutely badass!!
Previous Score: 10/10
New Score: 10/10
Standouts: Words Of Wisdom, Captain Clock, Under The Dome
Macro- I remember back when I had SiriusXM and the song Judgement And Punishment was always being played on the liquid metal channel. In fact, it got played so much I kinda got tired of hearing that song but aside from that it’s a pretty good song and there are far worse overplayed songs than that one. Now, as far as the rest of the album goes, it’s a great album. It’s sort of feels like they’ve kind of found their sound/groove and are sticking to a really great formula. There’s a lot of really cool down tuned riffs, and the vocals just sound killer on top of everything.
Previous Score: 10/10
New Score: 10/10
Standouts: Home Back, Retrospection, The Prophecy
Micro- again this one’s just really an EP that’s a good companion piece to Macro. I personally think they should’ve included the songs off of this on the album, but I’m sure they had to release something like this around that time. Give it a listen. The songs are pretty good.
Previous Score: 9/10
New Score: 9/10
Standouts- Perennial, Dreadful Moments
Wallflowers- I would say that this album is kind of more the same which is not a bad thing. It just simply means that you can listen to this one and Micro back to back and that makes for a great listening experience. So again, the vocals are absolutely killer and the Guitar work as well as the rest of the band is top-notch. Between this album and the last album is just almost dark aspect.
Previous Score: 9.5/10
New Score: 9.5/10
Standouts: Disclosure, Copycat, Call Me A Symbol
Live In Los Angeles- so on Spotify there’s two live albums. There’s this one and then there’s one called Alive In Melbourne and both live albums are great, but I chose this one because I like the production better on this one just slightly. This definitely captures their live show pretty well and you can just feel the energy that they bring. Listening to this live album definitely makes me want to go see them live because of all the bands that I’ve seen, I still have yet to see this one and if this album is anything to go by then it sounds like they put on an excellent live show. I’ll give this one 8.5/10.
Standouts: Homeback, Sit Stay Roll Over, As I Boil Ice
Duél- this is one of those albums that has a little bit of everything. Only difference between this one and the last couple of studio arms is that I don’t know. It just seems like they’ve gotten faster for some of their songs. Like the opening song just comes out the gate with a bang and it is an excellent way to start an album. I really really enjoyed this album a lot more than I would’ve thought. I’m more of a fan of the guttural vocals and you get a good amount on this album. At the end of the year, I will be compiling a list of favorite albums, and this one might be a contender for the top spot. I am absolutely giving this album 10/10.
Standouts: Fast Draw, Tantrum, Rogue
If you’re ever bored and you wanna see people’s reaction to a metal band like I said before go to YouTube and just search for Jinjer Pisces reaction or first time reaction and just the videos are great. But aside from that this is a band that is just absolutely crushing and it seems like they’re only getting better and better as they make more albums. Again, they are abandoned that I have not seen live, but I am adding them to my bucket list of bands to see. It just hasn’t worked out scheduling wise to see them at the time of this review. Either way if you’re looking for something new and exciting and refreshing give this band a listen.
