Up next on the chopping block is a band that I’ve really only heard their radio hits. Some would say that these guys are a greatest hits band but we shall see. The band in question is The Allman Brothers Band and as I just stated the only songs I’ve really heard have either been on the radio or in movies such as the Devil‘s Rejects. So with that said let’s take a look………
Allman Brothers Band- there’s just something about albums that were made in the 60s/early 70s that I don’t know just seem special. It’s very 70’s/late 60’s sounding but again that’s what gives it its charm. Definitely a classic and I’m giving it 10/10
Standouts: Trouble No More, It’s My Cross To Bear, Whipping Post
Idlewild South- I mean come on what can I say about this that hasn’t been said already? This is the album that gave us the song Midnight Rider and aside from that song, it’s certainly a slight step up from the previous album. I don’t know this is just a great blues rock record and it gets another 10/10
Standouts: Revival, Hoochie Coochie Man, Leave My Blues At Home
Brothers And Sisters- I’d say this is another classic album. I mean this did give us the song, Ramblin Man which I think is their biggest hit. I mean aside from having some kind more mellow type songs. Overall this is a very good record and it definitely should be considered another classic. I’ll give this one 9.5/10.
Standouts: Jelly Belly, Wasted Words, Pony Boy
Win, Lose, Or Draw- this one definitely seems like it picks up where the last album left off. It is a tad slower than the other albums but I enjoyed this one. It’s what I would call a very laid back album. I’ll give this one 8/10
Standouts: Just Another Love Song, Win Lose Or Draw, Nevertheless
Enlightened Rogues- I don’t know there’s something that seems a bit uneven or maybe slightly off about this one. I’m not saying it’s a bad record but half of it seems kind of more upbeat and the other one is back to being somewhat slower that was prominent on the previous album. Not a bad record just like I said uneven and I’m giving it 8/10.
Standouts: Try It One More Time, Pegasus, Crazy Love
Reach For The Sky- I would say this one definitely has an 80s rock feel but more importantly it has an 80s southern rock feel. I actually found less to be a rather fun album to listen to. It’s upbeat and like I said before it just feels very 80s to me. Overall, not bad I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Angeline, I Got A Right To Be Wrong, Mystery Woman
Brothers Of The Road- and all honesty this is more of the same. Like it picks up where the last album left off and I really couldn’t tell a huge difference between this album or the last album. I’m not saying that that’s a bad thing, but in the grand scheme of thinks there’s not much variety between the two albums. This is kind of a whatever album and I guess I’ll give it 8/10.
Standouts: Straight From The Heart, The Judgement, Things You Used To Do
Seven Turns- so we’re now in 1990 with this album and I guess it does kind of big the question. How does this band sound for this era? Well I’ll be honest this help sounds a lot like the last couple of albums. Maybe the difference here is that it’s a bit more rock oriented, a little less blues. But aside from that, it’s nothing really brand new or mind blowing. Again, not a bad record, but just don’t expect anything new or exciting. I’m giving this 8/10.
Standouts: Let Me Ride, Shine It On, True Gravity
Shades Of Two Worlds- so I guess this one is back to being more blues sounding. I mean, it is a little bit slower compared to the last few albums and not that I didn’t like it I just found it to be just OK. Nothing special just whatever. I’ll give this 7/10
Standouts: Bad Rain, Midnight Man, Desert Blues
Where It All Begins- I I’m not sure if you wanna call this one comeback album per se, but I really really enjoyed this one. The last few have been kind of boring or whatever but this one for some reason felt almost refreshing. It does have blues and southern rock mixed together, but yet it doesn’t get boring or tired. Definitely check this one out and I will give it 9/10.
Standouts: All Night Train, No One To Run With, What’s Done Is Done
Hittin’ The Note- I feel like this one has a little bit of everything. By that I mean, it’s got some slower songs. It’s got some blues-y type songs and it of course it’s got southern rock songs. I would say considering that this is their last album. It’s a good last and final album. I’m giving this one 7.5/10
Standouts: Firing Line, Maydell, Heart Of Stone
I would say aside from maybe the first three albums this is definitely what I would call a greatest hits band. The albums are good albums, but you could probably get by with just a greatest hits album or listening to anything off the first three records. Definitely an important band but at the same time I don’t see myself going back and revisiting these albums anytime soon.
