One of my oldest reviews that I did was The Interrupters and at the time I have really only been familiar with their singles. Since then, I had the opportunity to see them live back when Five Point Amphitheater was still around in Irvine. Since I am reviewing women lead bands, how could I not include them? Let’s take a look…….
The Interrupters- I forgot how fun this debut album is. I mean seriously it’s just so much fun and it absolutely borrows a lot from the band Rancid. Aimee sounds so much like Tim Armstrong it’s almost uncanny. I don’t wanna say that they’re ripping off that band but rather taking that sound and putting a fresh spin on it. Either way it’s a great debut album and if you’re not too familiar with it, give it a spin.
Previous Score: 9/10
New Score: 8.5/10
Standouts: Easy On You, White Noise, Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me
Say It Loud- basically this is one of those albums that continues where the last one left off. I remember I liked it more the first time I listened to it but now it’s probably not as good as I remember. That’s not to say that this isn’t a good album or you should skip it but it’s good not great. Either way another fun follow up.
Previous Score: 10/10
New Score: 7/10
Standouts: Divide Us, Media Sensation, You’re Gonna Find A Way Out
Fight The Good Fight- i’m sure I’m not alone in this, but this was the album that got me into this band. I remember when KROQ was playing the song “She’s Kerosene” and thinking “wow they’re actually playing something good for once in awhile.” This one just feels more cohesive and it definitely steps things up tenfold. There’s just something about this album and I’m not sure how to explain it. It takes what they were doing before and gives it more of a punk edge. I would say this is probably the quintessential Interrupters album.

Standouts: Got Each Other, Not Personal, Broken World
Live In Tokyo!- so obviously as the name suggests this is their live album. If you ever seen this band live and you know that they put on a really fun and interactive show. This is very much captured on this live album and it’s one of those that you almost feel like you’re there at the show. That’s a rarity for live albums and if a band can pull that off then I say mission accomplished. Again, it’s one of those to check out if you’re a super fan of this band or if you’ve always wondered what they sound like live. I will say I’m pretty sure that this was recorded when they were supporting another band because it’s kind of short for a live album. Either way, check it out and I’m gonna give it 8.5/10.
Standouts: Title Holder, Gave You Everything, She’s Kerosene
In The Wild- so of all of their albums, this is probably the one I’m the least familiar with. I would say it’s maybe not quite as strong as the previous record but again I feel that record was almost lightening in a bottle. This one is a bit slower than the previous record and there’s even a couple almost ballad-y songs. Songs like that really show that this band is more than just one trick pony and at the end of the day I may not necessarily enjoy songs like that but it’s good to see a band sort of evolve themselves. I would also say that this one also has a couple of songs with a bit of reggae thrown in there. So if you’re a fan of reggae with a bit of a punk edge to it, you’ll probably really like this record. I’ll give this album 8.5/10.
Standouts: Anything Was Better, Kiss The Ground, In The Mirror
At the end of the day, this is one of those bands that’s just a ton of fun. If you have not seen this band live next time they come through. I would definitely encourage you to do so because they really do make their shows just fun. Now, when it comes to their albums, you can absolutely tell that they’re influenced a lot by Rancid and I don’t think I’ve heard as many songs with them as guests as I have with this band. Hopefully they come back around sooner rather than later and hopefully we get a new album.
