We’ve reached number 76/100 of my Top 100 and up for Song Pick Of The Week is Thin Lizzy!! Thin Lizzy is one of those bands where if you say you don’t like them you get this look like what does that even mean?? The song I’ve selected is “Cowboy Song” so let’s take a look……..
I feel like when it comes to Thin Lizzy the two singles that everybody knows are “Jailbreak” and “The Boys Are Back In Town,” and while this song may also be one of their singles, I think it’s definitely overlooked. The song itself is written from the perspective of a cowboy and lyrically it’s about his various adventures and romances. From what I’ve read at the time, this wasn’t considered one of their classics like the aforementioned singles but is now considered a hit. It definitely starts out mellow and then goes right into the up-tempo with a slight Country twist. I’m a really big fan of twin guitar parts and this song is a great example of such. It’s one of those songs that’s catchy, but not so catchy that it gets stuck in your head all day. It’s also had a bit of a resurgence as it was featured in the 2016 movie Eddie The Eagle as well as the 2013 movie The Kings Of Summer. If it’s been a while since you’ve listened to this song or to Thin Lizzy in general, give this another listen because it’s also off one of their best albums Jailbreak.
