The song for this Kickoff is “Celebrity Skin” by the band Hole and honestly, I couldn’t really decide if this is a forgotten classic or would fall under the Kickoff category. Ultimately, I decided on the ladder and with that, let’s take a look……
This is absolutely one of those songs that you could be thinking about and then once you listen to it, it does sort of get stuck in your head. The biggest thing that stands out for me is the main guitar riff which (fun fact) was written by Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins). I mean aside from the rest of the album being just a great rock album, it’s also a lot of fun and I would actually say that it would be one of those quintessential 90s records. I do also want to give a shoutout to Melissa Auf Der Mar’s bass tone. She is definitely one of those bass players that has just this monstrous, crushing tone and you definitely hear it especially on live versions. Recently this song has had a bit of a resurgence due to it being featured in the end credits of the film Captain Marvel. Definitely one of Hole’s more well known songs and give it a listen if it’s been awhile.
