When it comes to death metal, what places come to mind?? Well if you ask the average fan, they most likely will say Florida or New York for America. If they answer for Europe, they might say Sweden. England however, I think tends to get overlooked and up on the Chopping Block is the band Benediction. Let’s take a look…..
There’s just something about metal from Europe that is just so damn good!! As I said, England is one of those regions that I think gets slept on and that’s a damn shame because Benediction is absolutely badass. I actually first heard of this band while I was browsing for death metal shirts on eBay of all places. I thought the name was cool, gave their music a listen and well here we are. I would say if you’re a fan of bands like Bolt Thrower, then you’ve more than likely heard and heard of this band before. Of course having former Bolt Thrower vocalist Dave Ingram in the band probably helps but for those that are just getting into both bands, it’s a cool piece of trivia. Interestingly, this band also had a pre Napalm Death Barney Greenway on vocals too as well as Nick Barker who’s been in so many great bands like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, Brujeria, and Lock Up to name a few. Their first three albums Subconscious Terror, The Grand Leveller, and Transcend The Rubicon sound a lot like your standard death metal band. It really isn’t until 1998’s Grind Bastard that they start to add in groove and some elements of thrash. Personally I’m more of a fan of their newer material but all of their albums are great!!
