Ozzfest 1997: Type O Negative

If there was ever a band that belonged on Ozzfest, it would be Type O Negative. From their whole aesthetic to their sound, they are right up there with the likes of Black Sabbath. I mean Peter Steele is one of those iconic frontmen and for good reason. One could argue that the 1997 Ozzfest is where things really started so let’s take a look…..

I’m sure I can’t be the only one who thinks of the Halloween season whenever I hear Type O Negative. Their haunting gothic sound is just so damn cool and having them on the first touring edition of Ozzfest is absolutely perfect!!  Sadly I never got to see them live but the next best thing are videos like this and thankfully, thanks to the magic of YouTube, I’m able to see what I missed.  I can only imagine what it must’ve been like to see them and what makes this set special is that they bring out Phil Anselmo of Pantera to join them on the songs “Kill All The White People” and “Black No.1.”  Imagine being in that crowd and then Peter Steele says “we have a guest vocalist is that Dave Mustaine?  I haven’t updated my contacts” and then Phil Anselmo walks out?!! As I said thanks to YouTube I’m able to see what I missed out on but at the time of this, I was only 13 years old. It’s sets like this that really make me want a Time Machine!! Anyway check out the video below of their entire set and it really does sound good for being such an old video!!

Type O Negative played:

  1. Prelude to Agony
  2. Love You to Death
  3. Christian Woman
  4. Kill All the White People
    (with Phil Anselmo)
  5. Cinnamon Girl
  6. Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)
    (with Phil Anselmo)
