Up next on the chopping block is the band W.E.B. And they’re not really as well known as some of the other bands that I’ve done, but I would probably describe them as first impressions would be like a thrashier version of Dimmu Borgir (at least from the few songs that I’ve heard before this review). Either way the songs I have heard kick ass and they are also notable because the bass player Hel Pyre is also in the band Nervosa. So with that let’s take a look…….
Don’t Wake Futility- first impressions for this album is that very symphonic and kind of reminds me a little bit of fellow Greek band Septic Flesh. I will say that the guitar work is pretty damn good. It also kind of reminds me of early Behemoth but more melodic and more symphonic. Definitely check this one out and I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Black Ghost, Golden Ring, Cockroach
Jesus Heist- At first I was like oh great more of the same but that’s not quite the case here. Here they’ve incorporated some classic music elements such as piano and even some opera and while I am not a fan of opera, this actually works quite well here. This is actually a really cool album and a very solid follow up and I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Blessed Blood, Sepsis, Enthroned
My Storm Upon You- this is a six song EP with some demos, rehearsals, and a cover of Septic Flesh’s Anubis/Faust. It’s cool and a great addition to their catalogue and I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Anubis/Faust, My Storm Upon You
For Bidens- (pronounced Forbidens not literally For Bidens like it’s for the former president) ok so here they’re going for more of a symphonic death metal approach (best way to describe this). There’s a lot going on here but it works. You’ve got the faster stuff but then once you get to the last few songs, it becomes like this epic almost classic music type score and honestly I could hear those songs in a movie about medieval times or Viking times. Either way, it’s different and cool. I’m giving this one 10/10
Standouts: Nightmares In Disguise, Eligos, For Bidens
Tartarus- this one seems to focus a lot on the classical, epic type songs that were at the end of the last album. Again, if you’re expecting a continuation of the last album, it’s not really here. There’s a certain sort of darkness to this that makes it an interesting listen. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: Morphine For Saints, Tartarus, Cosmos In Flames
Colosseum- for some reason, this one again kind of reminds me of like early Behemoth albums. There’s almost a black metal tone to this album but the production on it is really good. It’s almost as if they were going back to their first couple of albums yet keeping their sound from the last two. I’ll give this one 8.5/10
Standouts: Murder Of Crows, Dominus Maleficarum, Ensanguined
Into Hell Fire We Burn- again, there’s kind of a lot going on here and it seems like they’re trying a few different things. There are some electronic parts to some of these songs which gives this a uniqueness. This is a really short album but they manage to squeeze in six badass songs. I’ll give this one 8/10
This is definitely a very cool and unique band and (at the time of writing this) I really hope that they make their way to the U.S. What I like about these albums is that they’re all different and it’s not just the same stuff (which is hard not to do with this kind of music). If you are a fan of bands like Behemoth, Septic Flesh, and Dimmu Borgir, then I have no doubt that you will enjoy this band.
