Limp Bizkit

Ok so the next band on the chopping block is actually a request. It’s a band I listened to when I was a lot younger and a band that also gets a lot of hate. The band I’m talking about is Limp Bizkit. Now it’s been a really long time since I have heard any of their music so let’s really see if all that hate is deserved or not.  Let’s take a look……..

Three Dollar Bill, Y’all$- alright so this is the album that started it all. I had high hopes for this one because I had heard that if you are going to listen to any of their albums, pick this one. My consensus is that it’s way too long and it’s not bad. Like seriously cut out like 7 or 8 songs. But it’s also not good either. Now if I were an angry teenager/adolescent, I’d probably like this a lot more. Like there are moments but as a whole the album just isn’t that good. I will say the one redeeming thing is Wes Borland’s guitar playing and riffs but Fred Durst’s vocals really get grating after awhile. I give this one 3/10

Standouts: Stuck

Significant Other- ok so this is the album that gave us the song Nookie and Break Stuff and like I said in my intro, when I was younger, I really liked those songs.  But like I said about the last album, it’s just too long and a lot of the songs are just filler. Also just like before, the guitar playing is really the only main positive I can say so far. There are vocalists like Chuck Billy who can hit highs, lows, deep growls, etc. Then you have Fred Durst who go from sounding like a normal vocalist and then go to a whiny vocalist.  I guess I would say that this is slightly better than the last album so I will give this a 4/10.

Standouts: Just Like This

Chocolate Starfish and The Hotdog Flavored Water- I mean we have more of the same here. I feel like with these albums, the first 5 or 6 songs are somewhat tolerable but then the rest of the songs are just filler.  Seriously less is more. There is no need to have an hour long album just for the sake of having more songs. I will say that for a lot of these songs there does seem to be a mixture of fast parts and slow parts mixed in which I guess can be a positive because they are trying to do something different however I found myself getting bored. That being said, this album is just meh and it gets 2/10

Standouts:  ok seriously what the hell is this?  Like seriously they’ve gone from sounding like angry teens to now borderline emo sounding teens. If you thought Fred Durst sounded whiny before well then you haven’t heard this album. Not much else to say except this album belongs up there in the hall of shitty albums (which include Green Day’s newest album and Tool’s newest album). This gets a -0/10

Standouts:

The Unquestionable Truth (pt. 1)- wow a Limp Bizkit album that sounds different? Well sort of. I mean I’m not sure what happened here but after the dumpster fire that was the last album this is definitely a step up. Now I think I remember hearing an interview or reading something back in 2005 saying that these guys were really inspired by Rage Against The Machine (which is ironic considering Timmy C. ruined their acceptance speech at the VMA’s) but the riffs on here are pretty decent. Like of all the albums thus far, this is probably their heaviest and least rap sounding album. Anyway, I give this 6/10

Standouts: The Priest, The Truth

Gold Cobra- aaannnddd we’re back only worse. There is less rock and more rap. At least there was a better balance of rock and rap on the previous albums. Here this is more of a hip hop album. Maybe they were still trying to be like Rage I don’t know. It doesn’t work and when they have songs that are less hip hop, they are boring. Fortunately this is the last album of this review. I give this album 0/10

Standouts:

I mean at the end of the day you cannot deny that their earlier albums did help create a genre which was Nü Metal so I will give them that. As far as the music goes, it’s just not that good and like I said when I was younger, I was all about it which I guess is who their target audience is/was.  The only thing is that to me the music doesn’t really hold up  when you get older. I will say though that Wes Borland is a pretty good guitar player. But I think it’s safe to say that I probably won’t be revisiting this band anytime soon. I don’t know I’m just not a fan. Now let’s get the album rankings over with…..

  3. Three Dollar Bill, Y’all $
