Havok

Alright so now I’m going back to thrash metal and I’ve decided to put a newish band on the chopping block. It’s probably a band you haven’t heard of and that band is Havok. So with that let’s take a look…..

Burn- see this is what I’m talking about. After the intro song, it just goes for it and doesn’t let up. Seriously if you like great thrash metal then I’d say stop what you’re doing and listen to this record. Yes it’s that good. I’m giving this one 10/10

Standouts:  The Root Of Evil, The Disease, Afterburner

Time Is Up-  as if these guys couldn’t get any thrashier they put out this record. It’s definitely faster and if you thought the last one didn’t let up then this one ramps it up and keeps going. Definitely listen to this one and get ready to fuck shit up. This definitely gets another 10/10

Standouts: Prepare For Attack, No Amnesty, Time Is Up

Point Of No Return- this is just a 4 song EP but it’s a really good EP. There are two originals and a cover of Sepultura’s Arise and Postmortem/Raining Blood by Slayer and both are great covers. I’m giving this a 9.5/10

Unnatural Selection-  if I could sum this one up in one word it’d be corny. There are too many chorus-y parts and a lot of them are repetitive. This one does sound like a little bit like a Municipal Waste record which isn’t bad but overall, it’s not quite up to par with the first two records. I’ll give this one 8/10

Standouts: I Am The State, Waste Of Life, Children Of The Grave

Conformicide-  one thing that is notable here is the amount of bass you hear. For a thrash record that’s kind of rare.  This one feels a bit darker than the others and the riffs are just so good on here. I’ll give this one 9/10

Standouts: Hang Em High, Peace Is In Pieces, Circling The Drain

V: I feel like this is a little bit of everything we’ve heard from these guys. It’s got that super fast thrashiness and it’s also got the slower stuff. I will say that the guitar work on here is superb and the bass also stands out. I’ll give this one 9/10

Standouts: Post-Truth Era, Cosmetic Surgery, Phantom Force

Ok so this one was short but sweet. I’m really looking forward to the next record and hope that these guys keep making more records.  If this is what the future of thrash metal is then I for one am excited. Now all that’s left is to see them live.

Final Grade: B
