Great Performances On TV: Linkin Park- The Emptiness Machine

From Zero is one of those albums that has no business being as good as it is. There are few albums that can honestly be described as the ultimate comeback and this is a perfect example of such.   From Zero and Linkin Park are the reason why I started reviewing bands again and for today’s Great Performances On TV, we are taking a look at the song “The Emptiness Machine” being performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.  Let’s take a look……….

Had it not been for my friend and podcast cohost Brian (of Audioeclectica) bugging me to put LINKIN PARK on the Chopping Block, I never would’ve had a newfound appreciation for this band. Now the album itself was released on November 15, 2024, but the lead single “The Emptiness Machine” was mine and everyone else’s first taste of the new album.  On September 17, 2024, the song was performed on The Tonight Show and this was actually the song’s television debut. I think what makes this special is that the first half of the song is just the band playing the song without Emily who then joins them to a very excited audience. Personally, I’d like to think that having the empty second mic stand was a little tribute to Chester. I feel like you can sort of tell that Emily is a little bit nervous. I mean, let’s be honest here she is filling some huge shoes, but this performance is so good.  After seeing them in 2025 and the subsequent performances on YouTube she really has gained so much more confidence and I’ve said it many times before and I’ll keep saying it, I think she is the perfect replacement for Chester and I actually prefer her over Chester. You absolutely can see that Mike Shinoda is so happy to be playing again and the chemistry that Emily and the rest of the band has is absolutely perfect. Check this one out and definitely give the rest of From Zero a listen!!
