Type-O Negative

Up next on the chopping block is a band that I’ve gotten numerous requests to do (no it’s not The Beatles) and I feel like the time is right. They have a very charismatic and weird front man who unfortunately passed away a few years ago.  The band up on the chopping block is Type O-Negative and aside from maybe one of their songs I’m not super familiar with any of their other material. So with that, let’s take a look………

Slow, Deep, And Hard- well this is a very interesting album to say the least. I mean the first song is basically someone having sex.  The rest of the album has kind of a goth-y punk sound. The lyrics are weird and definitely sexual and overall, it’s definitely different. I’m giving this one 8/10

Standouts: Xero Tolerance, Der Untermensch, Prelude To Agony

The Origin Of The Feces- so basically this album is we recorded or altered songs from the last album. I did read somewhere that they put in a fake audience to make it sound like they recorded this album live which I gotta say is definitely different. But if you’re looking for a huge difference between this album and the last album, there’s not really one there.  I’m giving this album 8/10.

Standouts: Are You Afraid, Gravity, Hey Pete

Bloody Kisses- OK so I had heard a lot of people who are fans of this band say that this is their favorite album so I can only assume that this is the fan favorite. I will say it is the fan favorite for good reason though.  It’s definitely their most cohesive album and their tightest album yet.  It’s very Goth-y and doom-y sounding, and Pete’s vocals are absolutely perfect for this kind of music, especially for this album. Again, I can see why this is considered a classic and considered to be the fan favor and I have no choice but to give this one 10/10.

Standouts: Christian Woman,  Set Me On Fire,  Blood & Fire

October Rust- OK so I know that there is somewhat of a debate as to which album is preferred. Is it this one or is it Bloody Kisses?  For me personally I actually prefer this one and that’s honestly because the songs caught my ear more. Don’t get me wrong this album and the last album or what I would consider to be classics for this band, but I just found that the songs on here tend to be a bit ballad-y in an odd sort of way. There’s also just a certain depth and almost darkness to this album (not to say that none of these albums are dark because let’s be honest they’re all pretty dark) but again this is gonna be one of those where I go back back-and-forth between the two. I’m also going to give this album 10/10.

Standouts: Red Water (Christmas Mourning), My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend, Green Man

World Coming Down- so far this album feels like it’s their darkest.  I mean, I guess you could say all of their albums are pretty dark but this one just feels the darkest.  Now I did read somewhere that this one deals with things like drug use and deaths of family members, etc.. so I guess in a sense you could probably argue that this album is Peter Steele’s most personal record.  Whatever your thoughts are on the subject matter this is a great record and I would say it’s maybe not as accessible as an album like Bloody Kisses but give this one a listen regardless. With that said, I’m gonna give this album 9/10

Standouts: Sinus, Everything Dies, Lung

Life Is Killing Me- I feel like for this one. It’s not really more of the same but yet it feels like it at the same time if that makes any sense.  Like it doesn’t really break any new ground, but it feels refreshing at the same time.  But anyway, you slice it. This is another pretty damn good album and this is the album that gave us that I Don’t Wannabe Me.  I’m gonna give this album 9/10.

Standouts: Less Than Zero, How Could She?, Angry Itch

Dead Again- I feel like with this album we kinda get a little bit of everything. It definitely feels a bit more on the sludgy side of things which makes this a fun album.  Like when this band makes sludgy type songs they are a lot of fun to listen to.  It is unfortunate that this is their final album because it would’ve been cool to hear what they would’ve done next.  I’m gonna give this album another 9/10.

Standouts: Tripping A Blind Man, September Sun, Halloween In Heaven

It really is too bad that Peter Steele is no longer with us because I would’ve really liked to have seen this band live. The live tracks that I’ve heard at the end of these albums too. They sound great which again makes me wish. I had seen them when Peter was still alive.  But as far as these albums go, they’re very weird strange and haunting all at the same time. I guess this band is called Goth metal which I didn’t realize was a thing, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.  Definitely check these albums out if you have not done so or if it has been a while, RIP Peter Steele!!
