Up next on the chopping block is another band that has a fair amount of hits. They were big in the 80’s and are still around making music. Of course the band on the chopping block is Def Leppard and aside from their hits, I don’t really know their other songs. So with that, let’s take a look……….
On Through The Night- I gotta say this one kinda reminds me a little bit of Judas Priest and I’m not sure why. It’s actually a good rock album and definitely not something I would expect but here we are. Great start and I’ll give it 8.5/10
Standouts: Rock Brigade, Wasted, It Don’t Matter
High N Dry- this one does remind me a lot of the last album but the solid lighting and the production are a lot better this time around. It’s definitely a very worthy follow up and the band seems a lot tighter as well. I’ll give this one a 9.5/10
Standouts: Another Hit And Run, Lady Strange, No No No
Pyromania-ok so here we are!! This might be considered like THE album of theirs to listen to. It’s got a lot of their hits such as Photograph and Foolin’ however, the rest of the album is pretty damn good. Of course it is it’s freaking classic and it’s getting a 10/10.
Standouts: Die Hard The Hunter, Comin’ Under Fire, Billy’s Got A Gun
Hysteria- this one I’d say has some softer and even some anthem-y songs but it’s a very good follow up. I’d say you really can’t go wrong with either this one or the last one in terms of their classic albums. I’ll give this one another 10/10
Standouts: Women, Gods Of War, Excitable
Adrenalize- ok so this one did come out in the early 90s but it still kinda has that 80’s feel to it. This was just OK and I would say it’s probably not as strong as the last couple of albums. It’s not a bad record by any means but it’s average I would say. I’ll give it 7.5/10.
Standouts: Personal Property, Heaven Is, Tear It Down
Slang- there seems to be something lacking here. Not quite sure, but the songs don’t really seem to draw me in as much as previous albums have. Not to say that this is a bad album, but I would say it’s just OK. I’ll give this one a 7/10.
Standouts: Truth, Gift Of Flesh, Work It Out
Euphoria- this one is certainly a step up. It’s got some decent hooks and the songs just seem more structured. I would also venture to say that the band sounds happier on this record. I’ll give this 8/10
Standouts: Demolition Man, Disintegrate, Kings Of Oblivion
X- this one is definitely the slowest one so far. When an album is mostly slow, it gets BORING and this unfortunately falls under that category. I’ll give this one 4/10
Standouts:
Yeah!- there are definitely some fun songs on here and some that are kind of forgettable. It does have a sort of B-Sides feel at times but overall, it’s not a bad album. It’s not really an album that I’d revisit and if they got rid of a couple songs on this it would’ve been slightly better. I’ll give it a 7/10
Standouts: 20th Century Boy, Street Life, No Matter What
Songs From The Sparkle Lounge- this one feels a lot like the last album however, it is slightly better. The songs seem to have bigger choruses and the hooks are also bigger. Overall, definitely a step up and I’ll give it an 8/10
Standouts: Come Undone, Hallucinate, Tomorrow
Def Leppard- I feel like when it comes to self titled albums, they can either be great, average, or just plain terrible. This one fits into the average category. It’s not as if the songs are bad or anything like that but they’re just kind of forgettable. It’s neither a good or bad album but it’s not very memorable. I’ll give it a 6/10
Standouts:
Diamond Star Halos- again like with the last album, this one isn’t very memorable. It’s not a bad album by any means but it’s just average. I couldn’t really get into the songs and it’s definitely not an album that I would revisit anytime soon. I’ll give this one another 6/10
Standouts:
This is a band that definitely has some GREAT albums, some good albums, and a few duds but they are a classic rock band for a reason and I would highly recommend listening to their earlier material. Even their albums after the 80’s is great too. The fact that they still tour and put out new music is awesome and definitely check them out if you haven’t or it’s been awhile and need a refresher. I have also heard that they are pretty good live too.
