Failure (Rewind Review)

Up next on the chopping block is another Rewind Review. This was another request and to be honest I did not realize that they had put out a new album since I did their original review.  The band that is back on the chopping block is Failure and I don’t think I’ve gone back and revisited their albums since I did the original review so let’s take a look……..

Comfort- I gotta say when I listen to this album, it does still remind me of early Helmet albums. Think Meantime meets Strap It On and you’ll kind of see what I’m talking about. But either way this was a really fun album to go back and revisit and it’s just a great rock record.

Previous Score: 10/10

New Score: 10/10

Standouts: Macaque, Swallow, Kindred

Magnified-  I’m still getting Helmet vibes from this album which isn’t a bad thing at all.  It does seem a bit more polished production wise and it’s a great follow up to a great debut album. The only real negative I can say is that I can see how some would say there aren’t a lot of variations between the songs but otherwise it’s another great record!!

Previous Score: 10/10

New Score: 9.5/10

Standouts: Moth, Let It Drip, Magnified

Fantastic Planet-  I forgot that this album is a slower album compared to the previous two. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing, but you know if you’re looking for an album that kind of picks up where the last one left off you’ll probably be in for a bit of a disappointment.  I forgot how much I enjoyed this one and can see how it is one of those that influenced a lot of other bands.

Previous Score: 10/10

New Score: 10/10

Standouts: Pillowhead, Segue 1, Sergeant Politeness

The Heart Is A Monster- Fantastic Planet came out in 1996, they broke up around that time, and in 2015 they put this album out. I must say it definitely does not feel like time has passed.  Like this seriously does feel like it picks up where the last album left off, which is pretty damn impressive.  I think I enjoyed this one just as much as I did the last one, except that I found this one to be a bit moodier and kind of dark. My only complaint is that it maybe drags on just a little bit but other than that it’s a great follow up.

Previous Score: 9/10

New Score: 9.5/10

Standouts: Hot Traveler, Counterfeit Sky, A.M. Amnesia

In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind-  the thing about this album is, I don’t remember it being this long. Much like the album title it is kind of a longer album or at least it feels that way.  I don’t wanna say this is a bad album because it’s not it’s actually a very very good album, but it just drags a lot in parts and it was one of those that I just kept on waiting for the songs to end.  Not a bad album, but definitely not one of my favorites.

Previous Score: 10/10

New Score: 8.5/10

Standouts: Dark Speed, No One Left, Found A Way

Wild Type Droid- so I feel like for this one it almost seems like they’re trying to branch out and maybe experiment with some different things. There’s a lot of the last album on here, but there’s a couple of psychedelic moments and there’s even a couple of moments that remind me of The Heart Is A Monster.  Otherwise this is a very solid album and definitely a step up so I’m gonna go ahead and give this album 9/10.

Standouts: Mercury Mouth, Headstand, Water With Hands

You can definitely tell that a lot of bands took influence from these guys.  I think I’ve read somewhere that someone said that this is your band’s favorite band and there’s probably some truth to that.  Now I know there’s a documentary that just came out a little bit ago and it’s supposed to be really good, but in spite of not seen it this is still a great band and a very underrated band.  I know that they still tour and play shows so they would be a very interesting band to check out.
