If someone suggests or requests a band for me to review then I will more than likely review them. The rules are it has to be a band that is rock (classic or hard rock), metal, or punk. So this next band on the chopping block is a request and that band is a band called Placebo. Now I have never heard of them so let’s take a look…….
Placebo- so first impressions are that this is definitely one of those indie/alternative rock bands and that’s not a bad thing. With this album, I get a very indie feel to it but in a 90’s sort of way. Kinda gives one a nostalgic feeling. Anyway, not a bad start and it’s getting a 8/10
Standouts: Come Home, Nancy Boy, 36 Degrees
Without You I’m Nothing- I feel like this one is more or less a continuation of the last album but in a better sort of way. The last one has songs that were more on the pop side of things and this one does too but there are a fair amount of slower songs. Either way it’s something different and I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Pure Morning, You Don’t Care About Us, Every You Every Me
Black Market Music- I find this record to be incredibly boring and really repetitive. One thing I can’t stand is when songs keep repeating the same lyrics over and over and over. It’s incredibly annoying and makes me skip that song and you get A LOT of that on this record. I’m giving this one 0/10
Standouts:
Sleeping With Ghosts- this one is definitely a step up from the garbage that was Black Market Music. The songs aren’t as repetitive and they are much more interesting. With this one, I found the songs to be a lot more enjoyable and I’ll give it 7.5/10
Standouts: The Bitter End, Bulletproof Cupid, Second Sight
Meds- this one kind of reminds me of Without You. The songs are more cohesive and it has a back to basics approach to it. Definitely one of their best so far and it gets 9/10
Standouts: Infra-red, Drag, Blind
Battle For The Sun- on second listen, I actually like this one slightly better than Meds. I mean both are good albums but I just enjoyed the songs a little bit more. This again has a back to basics feel to it and you could go to this right after Meds. Good follow up and it gets 9/10
Standouts: Kitty Litter, For What It’s Worth, The Never-Ending Why
Loud Like Love- this one is a bit slower and if you pay attention to the lyrics, it is in fact an album about love, heartbreak, and happiness. That said, sound wise it doesn’t deviate too much from the last couple records. All in all, it’s not bad and it gets 9/10
Standouts: Loud Like Love, Rob The Bank, Purify
Never Let Me Go- well I guess I found this one to be just ok. The songs just kinda tend to drag and again the vocals repeat themselves over and over although not as bad as Black Market. Overall, this one just isn’t that great with a lot of songs that are easily skipable. I’ll give this one 3/10
Standouts: Try Better Next Time
This was definitely one of the more interesting reviews I have done and it is very out of left field but I am glad to have gone down a different sort of rabbit hole. Will I go back to these albums? Not really anytime soon but if you want something different, then check these guys out. The albums are unique and different and absolutely have that indie rock sound so if that’s your thing and you are looking for something different then I highly recommend them.
