Lamb Of God

Today I’m going to take a look at Lamb of God. This is probably one of the bands that I’ve reviewed where I’ve seen them the most live. So here goes…….

Burn the Priest- so at first I wasn’t going to review Burn the Priest but then at the last minute to give the album another listen because the couple of songs I had heard I didn’t really care for. I’m glad I went back because this is actually a very good album. I’m not sure if it’s because I heard the remastered version but this album is good and I kind of wish that they’d play more songs off this album live. I remember when MySpace was around, they had for sale a bunch of Burn the Priest merch for sale including condoms.  Anyway, I give this a 7/10

Standouts: Goatfish, Salivation, Duane

New American Gospel- so this one has elements of Burn the Priest vocally and is actually a faster album as well. It even has elements of death metal and grindcore. Some of the songs do kind of sound the same but the ones that don’t are badass. I give this one 7/10.

Standouts: Terror and Hubris in the House of Frank Pollard, Pariah, Letter to the Unborn

As the Palaces Burn- so for this one, the sound is much better on here and they’ve ditched the grindcore elements. This record shows them going in more of a groove metal direction. Overall, I think this album is a little better than the previous album. The songs and music is more mature here and I think this and the last two albums they were trying to find their sound and here they’ve certainly found it. This is one of my favorite albums by them and I give it a 9.5/10

Standouts: For Your Malice, Vigil, In Defense of Our Good Name

Ashes of the Wake- to me this is the quintessential Lamb of God album. Like if anyone were to ask what’s a good place to start I’d say this one or Palaces. It’s a great record throughout and contains a lot of their songs that they play live. This is the album that really got me into this band and definitely give it a listen if you haven’t. I give it a 10/10

Standouts: The Faded Line, What I’ve Become, Remorse is For The Dead (wish they’d play this one live already)

Sacrament- out of all the albums so far, this one is the darkest. It’s also slower and the more I listened to it the less I liked it. Maybe that’s because Ashes was so good and this one is definitely not as good as that album. There seems to be a lot more choruses on this one and the songs that are good though are awesome which is why I give this one a 7/10.

Standouts: Redneck, Foot to the Throat, Beating On Death’s Door

Wrath- this one is definitely faster and not as dark as Sacrament however in terms of pacing, it goes from fast to slow to fast again. This one is kind of all over the place. It’s got elements of Ashes and Sacrament mixed together. I do think this one is just slightly better than the last album so I will give it a 7.5/10

Standouts: Grace, Choke Sermon, Everything to Nothing

Resolution- this one sort of continues in the same vein as Wrath and this one I feel like again you could listen to this one and Wrath back to back. This is a great follow up to Wrath and in fact I personally think it’s a little better than Wrath. I give this one 8/10

Standouts: The Undertow, Cheated, To the End

VII: Sturm Und Drang- this one took me awhile to get into because at first I felt the songs weren’t as strong as the previous album.  Ow after listening to it again, I appreciate this one a lot more. It’s not a mind blowing album and honestly they don’t really cover any new ground or reinvent themselves here but this is a pretty solid record. Like with this one and the previous 2 albums there are some songs that are filler but this is still a good record. I give this one an 8/10

Standouts: 512, Footprints, Erase This

Legion: XX (as Burn the Priest)- not sure why they felt the need to release this album under the Burn the Priest name but whatever.  This is a covers album and I gotta say it’s badass. They went ahead and covered some pretty awesome songs here. This is the last album to feature original drummer Chris unfortunately before being replaced by Art Cruz. A great covers album and this one definitely should not be skipped. Im going to give this a very strong 9/10

Standouts: Kill Yourself, Jesus Built my Hotrod, We Gotta Know

Lamb of God- today we finally got new Lamb of God. This is also the first album not to feature Chris Adler on drums. As far as the record goes, it is definitely picks up where Sturm Und Drang left off. However the difference between the two is that while that record has some songs that are just ok, this record has mostly great songs. Now if you’re expecting Ashes part 2 or something then you will be disappointed. This record definitely stands on its own as a great record. I mean there really aren’t any bad songs in the album but that being said, it’s just Lamb of God doing what they do best and that’s making great thrashy songs. Chuck Billy and Jamey Jasta are also guest vocalists on this record and their songs are badass. Overall, this is a solid release and I really can’t wait to hear them play these songs live. I give it 7.5/10

Standouts: New Colossal Hate, Reality Bath, Poison Dream

Overall, this band makes great records and there isn’t a bad record out there. The new album is fantastic and new drummer Art Cruz does a fantastic job filling Chris Adler’s shoes. If this is the new direction they are going in, then I’m excited for it. As with pretty much any metal band, you really need to see these guys live because they put on one hell of a show.
