Up next on the chopping block is a band that I was lucky enough to see earlier this year (2025) and I must say that they were awesome. The band in question is Abbath and while I’m not super familiar with them, they were great live. This one is gonna be short but sweet so with that, let’s take a look……..
Abbath- so apparently this album was supposed to be the next Immortal album but clearly this became Abbath’s first solo album and for a debut black metal album, I gotta say, it’s pretty awesome. Now I’m not really that familiar with a lot of Immortal’s albums so I’ll just assume that it picks up where the last one left off. Either way, a great start and I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Ocean Of Wounds, Root Of The Mountain, Count The Dead
Outstrider- believe it or not, this one has a slightly darker tone but you know what it works and works well. This one is a little faster than the last album and there’s almost like a Slayer meets Bathory type feel to this one. Definitely a badass album and I’m giving it 9.5/10
Standouts: Harvest Pyre, Bridge Of Spasms, Pace Till Death
Dread Reaver- this one definitely picks up where the last album leaves off however, it’s not quite as dark. I will say it’s noisier but it surprisingly works and I guess it would be how those earlier black metal bands would sound like if they had better production. However you want to look at it, it’s a great follow up and it’s getting 9.5/10
Standouts: Acid Haze, Septentrion, Scarred Core
Black Metal in general is one of those types of music that you really need to be in the mood for (for the most part) but this is definitely one of the better ones out there. Now hopefully there will be a new album soon and I definitely want to see them again. When I saw them (again this is being written in 2025), they only played Immortal songs which was cool but I’d like to see them play a set of their original music. Either way, check this band out.
