The Kickoff: Horns Ov Baphomet

It’s been a good while since I’ve listened to the earlier Behemoth albums but I came across one of the first songs that got me into them. It also just so happens that this particular song is the opening track thus making it a great choice for The Kickoff.  Let’s take a look…….

So the song that kicks the album Zos Kia Cultus is called “Horns Ov Baphomet” and it is (in my opinion) one of the best album openers. It starts of with what I can assume is a pastor or priest talking about people going to church followed by a speech from occultist Aleister Crowley.  It’s just such a bad ass way to open up an album which after the speech just goes right into the heaviness.  Behemoth has gone through different phases of extreme music.  They first started off just being a straight up black metal band, then went to being a death metal band, and now to a blackened death metal band. The rest of this album most definitely falls into the death metal category, and they definitely know how to do great death metal.  Of course, the outro compliments the song too.  It has this sitar sound followed by the remnants of what I can assume is speech in Latin (I don’t know. It’s kind of hard to understand) but it definitely gives it kind of an eerie factor. I can only imagine seeing them live when this album first came out, and opening with this.
