After seeing Bushthrax, it definitely made me go back and listen to all of those albums. One definite standout was the song “Killing Box” off of Volume 8: The Threat Is Real. It’s a standout because you have Phil Anselmo (vocals Pantera, Down) doing guest vocals and that’s what today’s Guest Vocals is focusing on. So with that, let’s take a look………..
Volume 8 is definitely one of those overlooked albums in Anthrax’s catalog. I mean sure it has its fans but at the time of its release, the record label dissolved and didn’t market the album properly. It really is too bad because there are so many great songs on it. I remember when I first heard this song and thinking those additional vocals sound a lot like Phil from Pantera and of course, after reading the liner notes it was. John Bush and Phil Anselmo sound great together and both of their voices complement each other very very well. Having Phil on this track almost gives this song a sort of Anthrax meets Pantera tone…….a Pan-Thrax song if you will. As I’ve said before this album along with the other ones from this era are sadly overlooked and that’s a damn shame because there really are some outstanding songs on this record.
