Bush

Up next on the chopping block is the band Bush. Now this is a band who I am not too familiar with except for the stuff they’ve played on the radio. So this should be interesting. Let’s take a look……

Sixteen Stone- I have a love hate relationship with this album. On the one hand, most of the songs that everyone knows off this album are so overplayed and I can’t stand any of them. On the other hand, I get that some would call this album a classic. I don’t know perhaps later on I’ll appreciate this one but it’s highly unlikely. I give it 3/10

Standouts: Everything Zen, X-Girlfriend

Razorblade Suitcase- so this one I actually enjoyed a lot more than Sixteen Stone. It has some slower tracks and some not so lower tracks but overall, it’s a pretty good grunge album. It almost has a In Utero feel to it. Not sure but I’m kind of reminded of that album a little bit. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with this album. I give it 9/10

Standouts: Swallowed, Personal Holloway, Synapse

The Science of Things- this one has electronic music mixed in with it and kind of feels like it’s a little on the experimental side. That being said, it’s an interesting record and like a lot of these albums, I never really heard this until now. I wouldn’t say that it’s a continuation of the last album but it’s definitely a solid follow up. Overall, a pretty good record and I give it 8/10

Standouts: Prizefighter, Warm Machine, Mindchanger

Golden State- I don’t know I feel like a lot of these songs on here could be heard in those early 2000’s teen movies. Now that isn’t to say that this record is not a bad record in fact it’s a very good record. The mood of this record could best be described as uplifting. After this record, it would be about 10 years before they would make another one. Overall, not a bad record and I give it 8/10

Standouts: My Engine Is With You, Float, The People That We Love

The Sea Of Memories- I remember hearing the song Sound Of Winter on KROQ when this album first came out and remember thinking that it’s a better song than a song like Glycerin. I guess after 10 years, Gavin Rossdale decided to reform Bush and this time he got Helmet guitarist Chris Traynor who I think is a pretty good guitar player but it’s random that he would leave a band like Helmet and join Bush. But that’s just my opinion. Anyway, the record itself is a pretty good and sort of captures the sound/feel that was present on Razorblade Suitcase and even on the last record. Overall, not bad and I give it 8/10

Standouts: I Believe In You, The Heart Of The Matter, The Mirror Of The Signs

Man On The Run- I feel like this one starts out kind of slow and while I was hoping that it would pick up, it doesn’t really. There are moments where it does but overall, I just wasn’t really feeling the first half of this album.  I feel like towards the middle is where it grabbed my attention. One thing I did notice is that there are electronic elements mixed back in with this one. Again like I said, I didn’t care for the first half but later on it picks up. I give this 7/10

Standouts: This House Is On Fire, Bodies In Motion, Let Yourself Go

Black And White Rainbows- this one sort of feels like they kind of lost their hard rock edge a little bit. A good amount of the songs are kind of soft and slowed down. Now let’s be honest when one thinks of hard rock, Bush is usually not the band that comes to mind but compared to some of their other albums, this one is softer. Unlike the last album where it picks up later on, this one really doesn’t. I was also waiting for this one to end. Overall, just an ok album and it gets 2/10

Standouts: All The Worlds Within You, This Is War, Peace-S

The Kingdom- for a band to put out new music while the pandemic is going on, is pretty impressive seeing as how they are unable to tour behind it right away.  Now I must admit that I had heard this album before I reviewed the other albums but having listened to it after the earlier albums, I actually really like this album. Whereas the last album they lost their edge, this one they get it back. To me, this is the one that should’ve come out after Man On The Run. Of all the albums, this is the one I could see myself revisiting. It’s definitely a good straightforward rock album and I give it 10/10

Standouts: Quicksand, Blood River, Words Are Not Impediments

While this band has not completely won me over, I’m glad I did this review because it’s something different. Having said that, they are all great musicians and Gavin Rossdale definitely has a very unique voice.
