Iconic Mascots: Social Distortion

When you think of Iconic Mascots/logos, it’s usually metal bands that have them. Punk bands really aren’t known for this however, there are a few. One band that comes to mind is Social Distortion with their skeleton logo. Let’s take a look……..

Believe it or not, the skeleton is named Skelly and his first appearance is on their first album Mommy’s Little Monster. He was created in 1983 by Mackie “Mac” Osbourne who is the wife of The Melvins singer/guitarist Buzz Osbourne.  The messaging behind it is one of mortality, rebellion, and the grittiness of reality.  Now while it does represent those things, it also goes with the fun and playful side of the band’s music. However, you feel about their music you cannot deny the cool factor that is Skelly.  I mean it’s simple and absolutely sums up what this band is about and that makes for a great mascot.
