On this day August 28, 2026, we have a brand new album from Marilyn Manson. Now in 2024, we got the album One Assassination Under God Chapter 1 and now we have One Assassination Under God Chapter 2. Let’s take a look…..
It took a number of years for me to really get into Marilyn Manson. For years I resisted listening to his music because I thought it was all a gimmick. Then of course after some arm twisting, I put him on the Chopping Block and all that doubt and dislike went away.
When it comes to Chapter 2, I’d say that this one feels very much like an actual second chapter. Of course this is one of those albums where listening to both chapters back to back makes for a fun listening experience. Now whereas the previous album was a more industrial gothic sounding record, this one has more of a darker, angrier feel to it. Honestly, the best way to fully listen to this album is to not only pay attention to the music but the lyrics. Lyrically, this reminds me alot of Holywood. Manson has this raspiness and rawness to his voice on this record and there are parts that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It’s a really cool feeling and that’s how you know that this is a great record!! Fun fact, this album was produced by guitarist Tyler Bates who also produced the last three Manson albums.
Whereas Chapter 1 was more industrial driven, Chapter 2 seems to be more synth/guitar driven. Chapter 1 seems to focus more on personal reckoning, survival, and public controversy and Chapter 2 is more about boundaries. Either way, it’s a great album and the fact that he decided to make a two-part album is really cool. I’ll give this 8.5/10
