THEE EXTREME!!!: Circle Of Dead Children

Deathgrind is one of those sub-genres of metal that you really need to be in the mood for. In fact I’d actually say that I too feel that way.  It’s not that deathgrind bands make bad music but it’s kind of hard to get into. However, when the mood strikes you, it can make for a fun listening experience and on the Chopping Block for THE EXTREME!! is the band Circle Of Dead Children.  Let’s take a look…..

First off I just want to say that the name Circle Of Dead Children is absolutely brilliant and badass!!! It absolutely is meant to shock people and I love that so very much!!  Now for those who are unfamiliar, this is a band that was formed in 1998 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  They’ve gone through numerous lineup changes and the only consistent member is vocalist Joe Horvath. Album wise, they have 10 albums plus one demo album. Personally I’d say I’d you want to start with any of their albums, I’d start with Zero Comfort Margin which came out in 2004. It’s probably their most straightforward death metal album. Now their last album came out in 2010 and things have been largely silent as far as their activities go. Looking at setlist.fm, they’ve only played shows on the east coast including festivals like Maryland Death Fest, New England Death Fest, and Hell Fest. Also according to setlist.fm, their last show was January 23, 2009 at The Smiling Moose in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

Let’s be honest, this band isn’t what I would call easy listening and I think what makes this band stand out from other deathgrind bands is that aside from the usual “noise” that you’d get, they actually incorporate elements of crust punk, doom, and black metal. If you are in the mood for something on the super underground, noisy, and where you can’t understand anything at all, then definitely give Circle Of Dead Children a listen. Hell if you want to shock the uptight, overly sensitive person in your life tell them about this band.
