Song Pick Of The Week: Everclear- So Much For The Afterglow

In continuing with my countdown to the number 1 band on my top 100, we’re gonna be taking a look at number 85. Number 85 is the band Everclear and the Song Pick Of The Week is the title track “So Much For The Afterglow.”  With that let’s take a look………

You know this is one of those bands that I really was torn between which songs to choose from.  I mean, let’s be honest here. The first two records are near perfect records and as I said, it’s really hard to choose between two great records.  Ultimately, I went with this song because there’s just a certain type of energy about it and at the end of the day it’s a really really fun song.  My guess based on the lyrics would be obviously it’s about a girl named Susan is into being overly dramatic.  My guess is that singer Art Alexakis either was married, and the honeymoon phase is over or this happened with an old girlfriend. Whatever the case may be the hooks and the melodies really do pull you in.  I read somewhere that Everclear is depressed sunshine, and to be honest, I can’t think of a more fitting description.  Whether you really want to look into the deeper meaning of this particular song or just want to throw this on for fun, one cannot deny that this is one of the best opening songs to a great album.
