However you feel about Anthrax, you cannot deny how badass We’ve Come For You All is. To me it’s right up there with Among The Living and for me it’s very neck and neck. Like if I was on a desert island and had to only take 2 Anthrax albums, it would be this and Among The Living. We’ve Come For You All is one of those albums where every song is perfect and for Song Pick Of The Week, I’ve chosen the song “Black Dahlia.” Let’s take a look….
As I said in my intro, this is one of those albums where every song is a banger. “Black Dahlia” has got to be one of their heaviest songs and at 2:37, it hits you in face and doesn’t let up and that closing blast beat from Charlie Benante is just so badass. Interestingly it’s one of the few Anthrax songs to not really have a guitar solo but that actually works in this instance. Now when it comes to the meaning of the song, it really isn’t that hard to figure out. It’s clearly about the infamous 1974 Los Angeles murder of Elizabeth Short aka the black dahlia. Scott Ian has always had a fascination with true crime and had always wanted to write about the murder case. But rather than writing about the timeline of the murder, he decided to write about the dark psychological headspace of a predatory person, their obsession, and eventually breaking them down so much that they reach their breaking point. Now since Anthrax won’t play these songs anymore (even though they should try with Joey I mean John Bush sang Joey and Neil’s songs), and now that John Bush is performing his Anthrax songs, it would be awesome if this made its way back into the set. I’m just putting it out there!!
