Garbage

So for this next review I thought I’d take it back to the 90’s. The band that’s up on the chopping block is the band Garbage. Now this is a band where I’ve really only heard those songs Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains so let’s take a look…..

Garbage- I do remember always coming across this album whenever I was in a store like Warehouse or Blockbuster Music and I just never got around to buying it. Anyway, the songs that were always on the radio back in the day were Stupid Girl and Happy When It Rains and they were always being played. As far as the rest of the album goes, it’s a great rock album and I definitely get a 90’s vibe when I listen to it. But really this is a great rock record and I’m giving it a 10/10

Standouts: Queer, Not My Idea, Vow

Version 2.0- honestly after the first one (back in the day), I didn’t really hear much of this band. This album however attempts to build off of the first one and I gotta say it does a pretty good job of doing it. This is one of those instances where you could listen to this one and the last one back to back. While I kinda prefer the first record a little bit more over this one, this is still a great follow up. I’ll give this one 9.5/10

Standouts: When I Grow Up, Dumb, Wicked Ways

Beautiful Garbage- so this one is a little different than the other two albums. By that I mean it incorporates different styles. It’s got some hip hop, electronica, and some new wave. Either way, it’s an interesting record to say the least. I personally think it’s just ok and I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: Shut Your Mouth, Can’t Cry These Tears, Begging Bone

Bleed Like Me- so this one goes for a more straightforward rock sound and Dave Grohl even plays drums on the first track. I feel like with this one it has some hits and misses but overall, a good album. Like if they left off a couple tracks than this would be a better album. I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: Bad Boyfriend, Metal Heart, Why Do You Love Me

Not Your Kind Of People- so after the last album, the band took a 7 year hiatus and after that they gave us this. This one reminds me a lot of the first two albums and you can tell that they have a renewed energy. Sometimes when bands come back from a long hiatus, it can go either way but here they put out a solid album. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Automatic System Habit, Blood For Poppies, Man On A Wire

Strange Little Birds- this one has a darker almost cinematic feel to it. It’s certainly different than what they have put out before. Personally I couldn’t get into it as much as I wanted to. Others may like it better than I did but overall, not their best. I’ll give it 5/10

Standouts:

No Gods No Masters- this one has a little bit of everything on it. It’s got some slower stuff and some of the more not slow songs on it. Overall, a very diverse album. There is even a song on it with Brody Dalle. Personally, I think the album is a little too long but that’s just me. I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: Girls Talk, The Creeps, No Horses

At the end of the day, this is a band that does put out good records and listening to that first record definitely brought me back. Shirley Manson is definitely one of those vocalists with a unique voice but the band is also great too. I would be curious to see how they are live.

Final Grade: B+
