Snapshots In Time: VH1 Supergroup

Did anybody watch any reality TV back in the early 2000s? Did anybody watch any of the reality TV shows that were on VH1?  If so, then you may or may not remember the show Supergroup.  Let’s take a look…….

Ah yes VH1 in the early 2000s what a time that was. Thinking back on it now, once MTV canceled Headbanger’s Ball, VH1 sort of stepped up to the plate and was showing heavy metal music videos. But I’m getting off topic here, the show Supergroup was a reality tv show that featured 5 musicians all living under one roof and they had 12 days to get ready for a show in Vegas. The supergroup consisted of Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) on vocals, Ted Nugent on lead guitar, Scott Ian (Anthrax) on rhythm guitar, Evan Seinfeld (Biohazard) on bass, and Jason Bonham (son of John Bonham and at the time Foreigner) on drums all while being managed by Doc McGee (manager of bands like Skid Row, KISS, and Bon Jovi).  I was never one to watch a lot of reality TV shows but this was a lot of fun.  I mean, obviously the drama was hyped for the cameras and if I remember correctly, the band actually put out two or three demos that you could actually listen to on their MySpace page back in the day.

I do remember where I was working at the time they were even older folks talking about this show and how much they thought it was just so entertaining and so much fun.  Again I didn’t really watch a lot of reality TV shows especially on VH1, but I do have a feeling it was done in kind of the same vein as their other shows.  This was just a fun eight episode show that really got you invested and really made you look forward to the next episode.  For their show in Las Vegas, they did play one song from each band’s catalog, and I must say hearing Sebastian Bach and Ted Nugent play the song “Punishment” by Biohazard is actually pretty cool. It really is too bad that they did not make another season of this show and I do know there were talks of doing one with all female musicians which I have no doubt would’ve been just as awesome. I do like that it took them a couple of episodes to come up with the name which they ultimately settled on Damnocracy.   Now, if you really want to watch it, it is available for free on YouTube but let us not forget that this is also the show that gave us the greatest band name in all of the hard rock history………SAVAGE ANIMAL!!!
