Biohazard

Up on the Chopping Block is the band Biohazard and they’re one of those bands that I’ve sort of been curious about.  I’ve seen them once before and I enjoyed them so I figured let’s hear the rest of their albums. Let’s take a look…….

Biohazard- so before anybody tries to look it up on any sort of streaming service such as Apple Music or Spotify, you’re not going to find it. It’s one of those albums you have to look up on YouTube. That said, I actually very much enjoyed this record.  It’s one of those albums that sounds very 90s and there are even a couple of samples taken from movies like Godfather Part 2 and The Warriors. Overall, a great debut album that needs to be on a streaming service.  I’ll give it 8/10.

Standouts: Retribution, Howard Beach, Blue Blood

Urban Discipline- if someone were to ask me what is the quintessential Biohazard record? I would probably say this one.  I’m pretty sure this is the record that most people are familiar with when it comes to this band.  If I were to start with this band, this would probably be the album that I would pick.  I’ll give it 10/10.

Standouts: Black And White And Red All Over, Disease, Mistaken Identity

State Of The World Address- this one kind of picks up where the last album left off however there is a bit more groove. Whereas the last album broke them, this one pushed them even further. After looking into it, I found out that a lot of marketing was done including appearances on Beavis And Butt-Head as well as showing the albums development on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball.  A great follow up and I’ll give it another 10/10

Standouts: Down For Life, Pride, How It Is

Mata Leão- I did read that this one was a pretty low charting album, but I actually really enjoyed this. It’s definitely got that aggression and it has a lot of really cool riffs and just goes pretty much balls to the wall.  This one does have some alternative elements as well as some hip-hop and this would be the first time that they recorded an album as a three-piece.  Fun fact for the tour former Helmet guitarist Rob Echeverria would fill in. I’ll give this album 8/10.

Standouts: Stigmatized, Cleansing, Better Days

New World Disorder- this one definitely picks up where the last album left off and you could probably listen to both these albums back to back. By now they’ve incorporated more hip-hop elements and it actually works really well.  This album does include guest appearances from the likes of Christian Olde Wolbers, Igor Cavalera, as well as rapper Sticky Fingaz. Now while this was considered a commercial disaster again I quite enjoyed it so I’m going to give it 8/10.

Standouts: Switchback, Salvation, Skin

Uncivilization- this one has a sort of nü-metal sound to it.  It actually works quite well however, I feel that if this had come out during the height of it, it might’ve been more well known. The recording on it is very raw sounding but again another album worth a listen so I’ll give it 8/10.

Standouts: Gone, Treason, Sellout

Kill Or Be Killed- if the last album was them experimenting with hard-core meets hip-hop, then this album goes back to their original formula. I don’t know if the version that I heard was an original, but it sounds a lot like the first couple of records.  Sometimes bands need to go back to their old sound and fortunately Biohazard is able to pull it off quite well. I’ll give this album 8/10.

Standouts: Penalty, Beaten Senseless, Kill Or Be Killed

Means To An End- if the last album was a little bit on the slower side of things and more raw sounding than this one speeds it up and ups the production. Again, another album you have to find on YouTube, but it is definitely worth the search.  Originally this was supposed to come out in 2004 however, something happened in the studio and the band was forced to re-record and release it in 2005.  Again another great album with them returning to form so I will give it 9/10.

Standouts: My Life My Way, To The Grave, Devotion

Reborn In Defiance- again this album just shows them stepping their game up and what I really enjoy about this is the big chunky guitar riffs. What does it make this album stand out is that there are some slower songs that almost go into ballad like territory.  Honestly, I wouldn’t think a band like this would ever put out these kinds of songs, but they’re actually pretty good.  Now this would be their last album with Evan Seinfeld and before their long break.  This also has the original lineup so that would make this a reunion album.  I’ll give this album 8.5/10.

Standouts: Vengeance Is Mine, Come Alive, Killing Me

Divided We Fall- after 13 years, they finally put out a brand new album. Now the band didn’t really break up in between that time, they just didn’t really tour or play shows.  This album sees the reunion of the classic lineup and I would definitely call it a comeback album.  This is one of those albums that when you listen to it you think to yourself it’s as if they almost left.  I actually quite enjoyed this record a lot and again it does show respect to their roots but at the same time it gives it a modern twist.  I’ll give this album 9.5/10.

Standouts: Fuck The System, Word To The Wise, S.I.T.F.O.A.

This is definitely one of those bands that I’m glad decided to reunite and start touring again. Now I have seen them before at Aftershock so it’ll be interesting to see how they do in a club setting in 2026. When I saw them, I thought that they were pretty enjoyable and they definitely brought a lot of energy so I know that anytime you see them, it’s always going to be a great time.  Definitely check out their albums, especially the new album because it just proves that this band is back and here to stay!!
