Silverchair

So in continuing with 90’s music I thought I’d put a band I haven’t listened to in a really long time on the chopping block. That band is Silverchair and it’s been years since I’ve listened to them. So with that let’s take a look……

Frogstomp- wow this album takes me back. I remember hearing songs off of it back when there were more rock radio stations. I think I read somewhere that the band was like 15 when they recorded it which is pretty impressive. This is one of those rock records where it’s a no nonsense straightforward rock album. It’s a great record and I’ll give it 10/10

Standouts: Israel’s Son, Pure Massacre, Madman

Freak Show- much like the last album, this is another great rock record. While it may not be quite as strong as the last record, this is still worth a listen.  It’s another straightforward rock record. I’m giving it 10/10

Standouts: Slave, The Door, Roses

Neon Ballroom- I guess you could say that this one is their more mature record. Gone is the aggression and the (I guess) hard rock sound that was on the first two albums.   This record is significantly softer than the last record. I do think this is a different record but different isn’t always a bad thing and that’s certainly not the case here. I’ll give this one 7/10

Standouts: Anthem For The Year 2000, Do You Feel The Same, Steam Will Rise

Diorama- so I guess we’re going to continue what was done on the last record?  While the band sounds good and the vocals are fine, I just couldn’t get into this one. I miss the sound of the first two records. To me this record gets kinda boring. I’ll give it 2/10

Standouts:

Young Modern- ok so I definitely think it’s safe to say that this band has changed directions and have gone to a softer sound. Gone are the hard rock days and while I can appreciate bands changing their sound on one maybe two records, I wish they’d go back to their original sound. Some may like this one but I (again) got bored with it. I have no choice but to give this 2/10

Standouts: If You Keep Losing Sleep

Well this one was a short and sweet deep dive. Now I do enjoy the first couple albums but after that, I can either take them or leave them. It’s really too bad because the band is actually a really good band. I wonder if they play anything from their first records live?

Final Grade: A

Album Rankings:
