I really have to give credit where credit is due because had it not been for Spotify, I probably wouldn’t have known about a lot of the bands I listen to especially some of these newer bands. One such band is Skanks With Knives and they are a band from the LA/OC area who really capture the spirit of bands like The Plasmatics. In fact the singer Turbo has a similar look to Wendy O Williams meets Lori Petty from that movie Tank Girl meets Linnea Quigley’s character Trash from Return Of The Living Dead. Musically, they have that fun, chaotic punk sound that is definitely are a great mix of bands like The Plasmatics, Riot Grrl, and L7 which is a fantastic combination. Now when it comes to their music, they have one song “DFI (Destroy False Icons)” on streaming that was released in March 2026 and it’s a commentary on what is going on in the world. It’s a criticism of things like social media to microplastics to worshipping fake people. It’s one hell of a fun song and I’m very much looking forward to hearing what they have to offer next. So give them a listen and this is a band to keep your eyes on.
