So recently I was watching Jackass and I thought “you know who I haven’t listened to in a very long time is the band CKY.” So that’s who is on the chopping block today. Now I’m sure if you’ve watched shows like Jackass and Viva La Bam, then you’ve definitely heard CKY so with that let’s take a look…
Vol. 1- so this album has their biggest hit 96 Quite Bitter Things but the real question is how’s the rest of the album? Well it’s good. It’s got a good balance of some slower songs but overall, it’s a good skate punk album. The vocals are definitely different and the guitar work is pretty good too I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: Disengage The Simulator, Knee Deep, To All Of You
Infiltrate*Destroy*Rebuild- I feel like this one sort of dabbles into progressing rock territory a little bit. There is also a good amount of synth being used and they definitely make good use of that octave pedal for the guitars. I’ll definitely say that this is an interesting album. Anyway, I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Flesh Into Gear, Attached At The Hip, Shock And Terror
An Answer Can Be Found- I really wanted to like this one a lot more but I couldn’t. I don’t know a lot of the songs kinda dragged and parts were repetitive. It’s got some alright moments but as a whole, it’s kinda meh. I’ll give this one 5/10
Standouts: As The Tables Turn
Carver City- so apparently this one is a concept album about a fictional town plagued by crime. It’s an interesting record and the songs are certainly entertaining enough to keep you hooked. I think it’s a step up for sure. It should be noted that this is the last with singer Deron Miller. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Hellions On Parade, Plagued By Images, Karmaworks
The Phoenix- this is the first with new singer Chad I Ginsburg and I must say he does a pretty good job. There are moments where it’s kind of poppy but this definitely feels a little bit like a mix of the second and third record. Overall a good record and I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Head For A Breakdown, Wiping Off The Dead, Days Of Self Destruction
If you are looking for something a little different then I’d definitely recommend checking these guys out. If you’re expecting a punk band then you’d be disappointed but if you go into this expecting a good alternative rock band then you’ll definitely enjoy them a lot more. Like I said it’s been awhile since I’ve even listened to these albums so this was fun to go back and revisit some of these older songs.
