Well it has been awhile since I’ve done any sort of music review but you know life gets in the way. That said, for this review, I am going to put a band that I had only really heard of on the chopping block. The band is The Pretty Reckless and I had really only heard their name mentioned so with that let’s take a look……….
Light Me Up- so I guess I had heard the song Make Me Wanna Die before. It was at the end credits of that movie Kick Ass and I think it’s a great song. The rest of the album is also really good too. What I like about it is that it’s got this stripped down rock sound. The singer Taylor Momsen I guess was like 15/16 when this album was made which is pretty impressive. Definitely giving this one a 9/10
Standouts: Since You’re Gone, Goin’ Down, Light Me Up
Going To Hell- for starters, this one has a sort of grunge-y sound to it and has almost an early Heart feel to it (if that makes any sense). Either way, this one seems to be more cohesive kinda like they’re finding their footing. Definitely a great and worthy follow up. I’m giving this one 9.5/10
Standouts: Going To Hell, Sweet Things, Fucked Up World
Who You Selling For- overall, this album feels more “mature.” It’s definitely a bit softer in parts but it definitely has some classic rock elements as well. I’m giving this one 10/10
Standouts: Oh My God, Back To The River, Wild City
Death By Rock N Roll- this one I feel combines hard rock, grunge, and a little bit of blues. Call it what you will but it makes for a fantastic record and this is one of those records that I don’t really get tired of listening to. There’s even a song with Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden and another with Tom Morello which are both badass songs. This is definitely one of those albums that I would highly recommend which is why I’m giving it another 10/10
Standouts: And So It Went, Only Love Can Save Me Now, Rock And Roll Heaven
This is definitely a badass rock n roll band and I wish I had listened to them earlier. Taylor Momsen has got such a great voice and if there ever was a Soundgarden tribute show/band she’d be the perfect choice. That said, the rest of the band is great as well. This is one of those bands that is now on my bucket list to see live. Interesting fact was that this band was on tour the night Chris Cornell killed himself and I can’t imagine what that would be like. Either way, if you want a straight up hard rock band with a badass singer, then definitely check out this band.
