What do you get when you take members from Cypress Hill, Biohazard, former members of Fear Factory, Downset, and Korzus?? Why you get the group Powerflo of course. Let’s take a look….
Powerflo- this is one of those albums that makes you want to get in the car and drive really fast!! I mean talk about a powerhouse of a debut album!! It’s the perfect blend of thrash meets rap and it’s all done so perfectly. The main focus on this one is defiance, survival, street-level realism, systemic rebellion as well as resilience, and grinding through adversity which is definitely on point given the other bands that these guys are in. I’m giving this 10/10
Standouts: My M.O., Less Than Human, The Grind
Bring That Shit Back- this is an EP with some remixes of the songs “The Grind” and “Where I Stay.” It also includes the original song “Bring That Shit Back” and a cover of Bob Marley’s song “Get Up Stand Up.” While I do think they do a pretty neat job of covering “Get Up Stand Up,” I would’ve preferred another original but like I said it’s a good cover. The original “Bring That Shit Back” is a short but sweet ass kicking track and the remixes are pretty interesting themselves although remixes aren’t really my thing. I’ll give this 8/10
Standouts: Bring That Shit Back, Where I Stay (Dlow remix), Where I Stay (Vigilante remix)
Gorilla Warfare- much like the debut album this is another one to just throw on and drive really fast. This definitely picks up where they left off with the debut but adds in a touch of the hip hop elements that was on the EP. And much like the album title, this one focuses on urban survival, street combat, perseverance. Again all of this works together brilliantly and if you’re going to combine these styles, then this is how it’s done. I’ll give this one 9.5/10
Standouts: Im A Killer, Headstrong, Big Dog
As I said, if you’re going to combine rap, hardcore punk, and thrash metal, then this is exactly how it should be done!! Not only are these badass aggressive records but they are a lot of fun and I have no doubt that they are even better live!!! Now I do wish that we had more but again everyone in this band has different schedules but hopefully we will get new music sooner rather than later. If you are looking for something fun yet aggressive that’s fun to drive to or workout to, then give Powerflo a listen.
