Song Pick Of The Week: Kerry King-Toxic

Well, in my quest to the number one spot on my top 100, we’re taking a a look at number 78. Number 78 is Kerry King and I’m sure the question is “ isn’t this just Slayer part two?” and the answer is yes.  Now I have been fortunate enough to have seen Kerry both times he played in LA and one time in Sacramento and all three times it was great. Let’s take a look………..

The song I have chosen is “Toxic” and I chose this song because it just has that classic Slayer sound.  It also might be one of the very few songs that’s not about war religion, or Satan. It is absolutely a political song. There’s really no other way to slice it and who knew that a band like this could write something having to do with politics? When word came out that Kerry King was putting out a solo record so many people online were complaining that it was just a rehash of Slayer.  But it’s like of course it’s a rehash of Slayer I mean, seriously did people expect it to be Led Zeppelin? I would be remiss if I also didn’t give credit to the other members in his band. On vocals you have Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah, Blood Simple) on bass, Phil Demmel (ex-Machinehead, ex-Vio-lence) on second guitar, and Paul Bostaph (Slayer, ex-Testament, ex-Exodus) on drums. I mean, that is an absolutely killer lineup and Mark’s vocals sound very much like a young Tom Araya. All that combined and they put out songs like this of course it’s gonna sound like old-school Slayer.
