Up next on the chopping block is the band Bon Jovi. Now I’m really only familiar with like one or two of their songs so this should hopefully be a good one. This was a request so with that let’s take a look……
Bon Jovi- I gotta say this one was kind of a fun album. It sounds very much like a product of its time but I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. It’s just a simple hard rock album and sometimes simplicity is a good thing. I’ll give it 8.5/10
Standouts: Burning For Love, Breakout, Get Ready
7800 Fahrenheit- this one sort of feels like a continuation of the last album. The songs are alright and much like the last album, it definitely has that 80’s sound to it. Overall, it’s ok but I might prefer the previous album a little bit more. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: King Of The Mountain, Tokyo Road, Secret Dreams
Slippery When Wet- this is the one I feel like is THE fan favorite. This is the album that gave us songs like Livin On A Prayer and Shot To The Heart. I gotta say I can see why people like this one. The songs are very catchy and this is probably the quintessential Bon Jovi album. It’s definitely a classic and I give this one a 9.5/10
Standouts: Raise Your Hands, Wild In The Streets, Let It Rock
New Jersey- you could say that this one and the last one complement each other. You could listen to the last one and this one back to back because this one reminds me a lot of the previous entry. There are some slower songs but overall, I feel that this is another essential Bon Jovi album. I’ll give this one 9.5/10
Standouts: Bad Medicine, Stick To Your Guns, 99 In The Shade
Keep The Faith- ok so this one definitely isn’t as much of a hard rock album and in fact it’s quite slow compared to what they’ve done thus far. I don’t want to say that it’s a boring album because surprisingly it’s not and there still are a good amount of rock songs. The songwriting is still pretty good but this isn’t an album I would revisit. I’ll give this one 6/10
Standouts: Keep The Faith, Woman In Love, Bed Of Roses
These Days- again much like the last record, it’s got a lot of slower songs but there are some hard rock-ish songs on here too. I don’t wanna say that this one’s boring but I guess it’s one that I might put on before going to bed or something. Anyway, I’ll give this one 6/10
Standouts: Something For The Pain
Crush- ok so this one has gone back to the rock sound that we are kind of used to. It does have a mix of both slow songs and not so slow songs. I found myself losing interest and overall, it’s not that great. I’ll give this one 5/10
Standouts: Say It Isn’t So
Bounce- finally, this one has some rock to it. It’s not as slow as the last couple albums and it has enough to keep one’s attention. Overall, I enjoyed this one more so than the last couple albums so I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Undivided, The Distance, Bounce
Have A Nice Day- I like this album cover, it reminds me of the Kool-Aid Man. Anyway, the album itself is decent. It’s got a few hits and misses but overall, not bad however, it does feel a bit disjointed at times. I’ll give this one 7/10
Standouts: Have A Nice Day, I Want To Be Loved, Complicated
Lost Highway- ok so what the hell was going on with this one? It’s got a country-ish feel to it and the songs are so slow and boring. I really couldn’t wait for this one to be over with. It’s really not good and is easily skip-able. I’m giving this one 0/10
Standouts: none this is a terrible album
The Circle- ok so this one is a step up but that isn’t saying a lot. I don’t know I’m noticing a pattern with a lot of these albums and that is write some songs that have a little bit of a hard rock tone but write more ballad-y songs. This one is just a boring album. The songs are uninteresting and just seem to drag. I’ll give this a 1/10
Standouts:
What About Now- again more of the same. I guess this one is a little less soft but side from that it’s not that different from what I’ve heard before. A lot of these albums are wash, rinse, repeat with some slight differences. I’m giving this one 3/10
Standouts: Because We Can
Burning Bridges- (fyi there’s a better album with this title from another band) this one feels like it has some B-Sides and overall feels uneven. Music wise, it’s ok. I found some of the songs to be better than what I’ve heard but again as a whole this album is mediocre. I’ll give this one 4/10
Standouts: We Don’t Run
This House Is Not For Sale- again another formulaic album. I’m actually really starting to get bored and somewhat annoyed with this band at this point. There just isn’t really anything exciting that they have to offer and this album is another example. I’ll give it 0/10
Standouts:
2020- hate to say it but this really isn’t anything new and it’s another boring album. Needless to say it’s getting another 0/10
Standouts:
Forever- FINALLY!! We’ve arrived at the last album and it’s ironic that this one’s called Forever because that’s what this deep dive started to feel like. All kidding aside, the songs are slightly better they aren’t better by that much. There’s really not a lot in the way of anything new or exciting and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is their last or one of their last albums. Overall it’s meh and I’ll give it 3/10
Standouts:
Well I gotta say that while this band does have some great albums, overall, a lot of them sound the same. Sure there are some slight variations but overall, this one was average. The song writing isn’t bad but the execution suffers. I can only do so many slower albums and this band has a lot of them. I can see why their fans like them but this one wasn’t for me. Needless to say I’m not a fan of this band but I’m glad I put them on the chopping block. I probably am not going to revisit these albums.
Final Grade: C- (I’m being generous here)
