Ok so up on the chopping block is what I would call a 90’s band. Some might even call them a one hit wonder band and if you’ve seen the Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 trailer then you should have some idea of who is on the chopping block. If not then I’ll tell you. The band is Spacehog and let’s see if they’re more than their hit song In The Meantime or is there more to them. Let’s take a look……
Resident Alien- yes this is the album that gave us the aforementioned song and yes I freaking love that song. I remember it was always on the radio and it is a jam!! Now as far as the rest of the album is concerned, it’s actually quite good. It has kind of a David Bowie meets Queen kind of feel to it and it’s a really cool record. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: Space Is The Place, Cruel To Be Kind, Starside
The Chinese Album- this one has more of a pop rock feel to it. And yes it does have a little bit of elements of the previous album but I don’t think it’s quite as good as Resident. For some reason, I feel like they were influenced by Queen as some of the songs remind me of them. Still though, I would give this album a listen. I’ll give it an 8/10
Standouts: Mungo City, Skylark, Carry On
The Hogyssey- you can tell that they were trying to go back to the sound of their first album while at the same time trying to be different. I do think it’s a good attempt and if you were to listen to this band all the way through, I would actually listen to this album second and Chinese third. This definitely would be a better second album and I actually enjoyed this one a lot. I’ll give it a 8.5/10
Standouts: This Is America, I Want To Live, Perpetual Fool
As It Is On Earth- ok so I guess we’re going for a softer rock album? This is a much softer and mellow, almost atmospheric album. It’s certainly different and clearly they were trying to go in a different direction or at the very least try something else. It’s not bad but it’s not an album I’d revisit anytime soon. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Gluttony, Now I’m Only Dreaming, I Wish You Well
This is a band that is definitely more than just a one hit wonder band. Their other albums are actually pretty good and I definitely recommend giving them a listen. Yes there are only four albums but they’re four good albums. Be curious to see if they put anything else out or just tour with the material they have.
