Rising Star Reviews: Archeons

OK, it’s time for another band spotlight and for this one I thought I would take a look at a band from Tennessee called Archeons. They’re a band that recently came across my radar so thought I’d give them a listen.  Anyway, with that, let’s take a look……….

So in the quest of finding new bands to Spotlight this band Archeons came across my radar and I must say if I’m being completely honest, they were quite enjoyable. Now, if you use Spotify like I do they have about 13 singles and one five song EP. So I looked into this band a little bit and their description says that they are influenced by bands like Avenged Sevenfold with some cinematic-ness but there’s a lot more to it than that.  Sure you can hear a lot of that band in this music, especially the vocalist  which does seem to channel M. Shadows however I can hear other bands in this music like Trivium and even a little bit of that band Periphery. Now I am a big fan of the (what I like to call) Meshuggah style riffs, and you definitely get a fair amount of that with this band. I also feel like their songs that came out in 2020 up until now you can tell that they are starting to become a tad more cohesive. There are a couple of songs like Adrenaline and Tempest that are starting to go on the more melodic side of things which in my opinion is a great way to evolve while staying true to the original sound.  Now I will say my biggest criticism would have to be the vocals and it’s only because they are a little on the derivative side, but that said they very much fit this band.  Now I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that there are a couple of cover songs and they’re interesting choices.  The first is Peace Of Mind by Boston and I gotta say that one’s probably the most interesting choice because Boston is one of the best bands ever and that song is one of their best songs. I mean it’s a classic for a reason.  I actually really enjoyed it. It’s great. That’s such a young band is willing to cover that kind of material.  The next cover song that they have is Helena by My Chemical Romance and to be honest, it didn’t surprise me that they covered this song.  Like when you listen to it, you would probably have the same reaction I had which was yeah that seems about right. The next cover that they have is Points Of Authority by Linkin Park and all I can say is that Chester would be proud. It’s a great cover and again much like the Helena cover, it’s great choice. This is definitely one of those bands that wear their influences on their sleeve, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.  I think it’s great when younger bands do that because then you can think to yourself oh clearly they’re influenced by bands like Periphery, Avenged Sevenfold, and Blink-182 (all of which you can hear). So again give this band a lesson they have a lot of potential and if they keep going in the direction that they’re going, I see great things on the horizon.
