Ok so this is a band that I couldn’t decide if I should put them on the chopping block. They’ve had some really good albums and some not so good albums. The band I am talking about is the band Incubus. Now I can remember hearing the song Nice To Know You when I was in Mexico with the church doing that sort of stuff and that song was always being played. But enough of that let’s take a look…………
Fungus Amongus- now there are some who would say that this is a rehash of bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers or Rage Against The Machine and yes while that might be the case, this is still a really good record. It’s funky and if you have heard their newer songs, this album will surprise you. It’s definitely a unique record for this band. I’ll give this one 8.5/10
Standouts: Shaft!, Trouble In 421, Medium
S.C.I.E.N.C.E- so this one is definitely a Nü Metal record however it’s a funky Nü metal record and it’s really good. Again if you haven’t heard this one before, you will be surprised. I’ll give this one 10/10.
Standouts: Redfine, New Skin, Nebula
Make Yourself- this one isn’t as fast or as “Nü metal” as the last one and they even slow it down on some of the songs. This one is where they slowly start to sound radio friendly. One big negative is that this is the album that gave us the song Drive. I freaking hate that song. Like how that song helped make them popular is beyond me. Overall, this one is just ok. I’ll give this one 7/10
Standouts: Nowhere Fast, Make Yourself, Consequence
Morning View- ah here we are. This is the album that I’m pretty sure made them popular. Now I know I’m probably going to get shit for this but this record is overrated. And yes I know there are so many of their hits on this record including the as mentioned Nice To Know You song but damn this record is boring. Like the songs that are popular are so overplayed. This isn’t the worst album I’ve ever heard but it’s far from the best. I’m giving this one 4/10
Standouts: Circles, 11 AM
A Crow Left Of The Murder- ok so this one is definitely a step up from Morning View. I remember the song Megalomaniac always being played on KROQ and the video for it was always on MTV (back when they’d show some music). Aside from that song, the album’s not bad. No it’s nowhere nearly as good as S.C.I.E.N.C.E but there are so many better songs on here than the previous album. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: A Crow Left Of The Murder, Pistola, Zee Deveel
Light Grenades- I feel like with this band that every other record is good and the next one isn’t as good (or at least that’s how it seems). Again this one is not as good as the last one but overall it’s not that bad. There are some songs that aren’t half bad but as a whole, this one just isn’t that good. I’ll give this one 5/10
Standouts: Anna Molly, Rogues
If Not Now, When?- so I guess we’re going soft rock? If I could sum this record up in one word, it would be boring. A record with a lot of slow songs, not that good. A record with all soft songs? Boring as hell. I just didn’t really enjoy this record so I’m giving it a 0/10
Standouts:
8- again this one is a slight step up from the last one but that isn’t saying much. I guess there are a few ok songs but overall, this is just another boring album. The vocals are fine and the band doesn’t sound bad but the songs are just…well…….they’re lame. That’s the best way I can describe this record. It’s too radio friendly. I’m giving this one 0/10
Standouts:
It’s really too bad that these guys couldn’t continue to make more albums like their first two records. I mean I get why they went in the direction they went in but still if you want a perfect example of a band who sold out then look no further. I really hope they make another album like S.C.I.E.N.C.E. or even A Crow Left Of The Murder but sadly I don’t think that is going to happen. If anything they could play songs from the first two records live. Like that would be cool.
