Ozzfest Performances 1996:

With Summer almost in full swing and (at the time of writing this) with the announcement of the return of Ozzfest in 2027, I thought I’d take a look at some of the performances of the very first Ozzfest in 1996. October 2026 will mark the 20 year anniversary of the first Ozzfest so with that let’s take a look……

Slayer-Angel Of Death

One thing you cannot deny is that Slayer has ALWAYS put on a killer show.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Slayer is about as metal as you can get and this performance of “Angel Of Death” at Ozzfest 1996 proves just that.  Let’s take a look….

With summer right around the corner, that means that festival season is starting.  For those of us that grew up in the 90’s and early 2000’s, there was Ozzfest and the first one was in 1996 and it took place in San Bernardino and Arizona.  Slayer was one of the bands and this version of “Angel Of Death,” is absolutely badass.  If you know the history of this band, then you’ll see that in 1996, they were touring behind the Undisputed Attitude album.  People say that 80’s Slayer was peak but I actually say it was mid to late 90’s Slayer. I mean just watch the video posted below and you’ll see why.  This version hits you hard and fast and of course you have Tom Araya (vocals/bass) head-banging.  I also want to point out that behind the drums is the rarely mentioned John Dette who does a killer job. Yes he’s no Dave Lombardo or Paul Bostaph but he absolutely kicks ass.  Definitely one of my favorite versions of this song and makes you wish this band would tour more.
