Brujeria

Ok so after Coheed, I decided to go back to doing another death metal review. Now let’s see who hasn’t been put up on the chopping block yet? Well I thought I would do a band who I guess would be considered a super group. I thought why not review Brujeria. Now yes the lyrics are all in Spanish and they do dress up as Mexican bandits but what is cool about this group is that while the lead vocalist may be Mexican, you have members from Fear Factory, Carcass, Napalm Death, Faith No More, The Haunted, Arch Enemy, and At The Gates. So with that in mind, let’s take a look……..

Matando Gueros- the album name translates to killing white people. I mean the song titles are both funny and badass at the same time. The album itself sounds like any other early 90’s death metal bands. Not that special and kind of generic except it’s sung in Spanish. Overall, a generic start but I’m giving it a 7/10

Standouts: Molestandos Niños Muertos, Chinga Tu Madre, Desperado

Raza Odiada- this album name translates to Hated Race and the first song has Jello Biafra doing a speech by Pete Wilson. The production on this album seems to be a lot better and the songs sound better too. They are faster and just overall seemed a bit more focused. Definitely a step up from the previous album plus this one is a lot of fun to listen to. I give this 9/10

Standouts: Raza Odiada (Pito Wilson), Revolucion, La Ley De Plomo

Brujerizmo- one thing I forgot to mention is that Dino from Fear Factory plays guitar on the last two albums and this would unfortunately be his last. This album has more groove to it as opposed to the death grind that was on the last two albums. The songs on this one are more about racism, bigotry, and xenophobia. This is one I’d definitely tell people to start with for this band. I give this 10/10

Standouts: Vayan Sin Miedo, Marcha De Odio, Mecosario

Pocho Aztlan- one thing to note is that there was a 16 year gap between this album and the last (probably because everyone was busy with other bands). Another thing to note is that this is the first album with Jeff Walker on bass. So if you take the first album and the last album, mix them together with the production of the last album, you get this. Adrian Erlandsson (At The Gates) also does drums on a couple tracks too. This o e explores more witch craft stuff. Overall, not quite as strong as Brujerizmo but a worthy follow up. I give this 9/10

Standouts: No Aceptan Imitaciones, Satongo, Debilador

Viva Presidente Trump- ok since there are only like 4 albums, here is a two song EP. this one obviously is making fun of Trump (released in 2016) and there is even a speech of his at the beginning. The two songs are Viva Presidente Trump and Pared De Muerte. I give this 10/10

Amaricon Czar- another two song EP making fun of Trump.  There is a funny phone conversation at the start. The two songs are Ameracon Czar and Lord Nazi Russo. The first song has some punk to it and the second has a thrash feel to it. I give it 9/10

Covid-666- another two song EP and this one is about the Covid pandemic. Again just a fun two song EP worth checking out. The two songs are Covid-666 and another song called Cocaina. I give this 8/10

This one was definitely a fun one to explore. I had heard about these guys and seen people wearing their shirts at shows but never really listened to them. Definitely a lot of fun and the song titles are badass and funny. Definitely check these guys out because in a sea of generic death metal bands, they standout.

Final Grade: B
